Ok! So are you going to give a little more info? All I'm seeing is a Mustang on a flat bed and the shifter flopped over, obviously broken.
A pic that was on instagram. No idea whats the background, I think the driver tried to shift into the "7th" gear

This is the brother of the guy whose car caught fire. I shit you not!!

He said he took off from a stop sign and it broke like that. Said Ford is covering it under warranty.

What are the chances of these brothers having issues like this without some funny business?

Slim to none....I am on 5 different car forums and have not seen any destructive crap other than these 2. The one brother also has a GT500 that has had issues as well.

Imagine how bad his hand hurt when it hit the dashboard.

Brute force isn't as efficient as knowledge, practice and skill. lol

Boy this took me back. My first car when I was 16 was a 1985 Ford Escort GT 5 speed. I was driving a girl home that I had a huge crush on right after I got it and the shifter literally cracked in two shifting from 2nd to third. Had to get her home and the car home in 2nd gear. It was over 25 years ago and it still haunts me.

Reminds me on my Ford Taunus, 1982 model, driving home from a vacation in Germany. I had to shift down from 4th to 3rd gear, because of traffic on the HWY. "Bing" - I had the shift stick in my hand. The last 400 miles I had to shift with a screw driver. A mechanic later said it is common on a Ford to lose the screw what holds the shift stick in place on a Ford Taunus.

This picture looks familiar to me! :D

Reminds me when I was racing a Ford Pinto at Mid Ohio in an IMSA Radial Challenge race back in about 1978 and my shifter unscrewed from the tranny tail shaft and was only attached to the car by the shifter boot. I came into the pits and tried to yell what was wrong to my pit crew, but they could not hear me through my full face helmet with all the cars racing and motor noise and such.
What to do?
I grabbed the shifter, ripped the rubber shifter boot out of the floor, and threw the shifter out the window onto pit lane. They figured it out from there!
