Am I asking the impossible for almost stock sound but being able to switch to a 'proper' sounding exhaust note. I've seem a system online, but it seems to require a quod tip rear end too. I'd want to keeps rear twin if I could.

Can anyone help me. You lads have probable looked at all this somewhere one here. Links appreciated.

Cheers. J

There is also the X-Force one which is similar priced to several non active cat-backs.

Nice one That's the thing. Any others about?
I looked for quite some time awhile back, but the X-Force and Roush are the only two I found.

The clamps hanging down on the X-Force rear boxes look AWFUL. Hateful sound when closed, too.

My research tonight makes me think that a simple h pipe will give me what I desire. My big worry was I'd end up with something totally OTT that I'd want to switch off some of the time. But the h Pipe with stock back boxes seems ok.

I had an SLK55 which had an x pipe but also secondary cats deleted also, and that was too much sometimes.

Any thoughts on the above h pipe only?
This would be with a cold air intake too. Thinking roush.

I guess I can always change axel back later if needed.

I don't think the install is supposed to look like that with clamps showing as they are in the site video. The OP from this thread has this image of his setup which imo looks pretty nice.

Regarding the sound when closed, I am pretty sure the flange is fully variable and you can set it in between at different levels. So you would not have to keep it fully opened or fully closed. I could be wrong though.

I have just an h-pipe on my car with the rest of the exhaust stock. It is still fairly quiet but adds quite a bit more deep rumble and nice volume. IMO its how the car should have came. There is some rasp at the higher RPM, but nothing obnoxious.

I looked under mine the other day. What a mess. Really angry about it.

I'm sure in the States they would sue for that. It's utter vandalism.
