Well, I searched the forum and couldn't find if this has been asked before so here it is:

My base Eco stereo SUCKS! I was thinking of buying a totaled premium and just swapping the parts I want and then running the GT back through the auction. I'd also like to have the GT Performance Pack brakes so I'd probably be looking for a Perf Pack GT.

Anyone ever swapped the stereo from a premium into a base model?

Just looking for guidance before I invest in something this big.

The Shaker stereo sucks, too! Just go to a car stereo shop and have it done right. I swear to jeebus the Shaker system with the sub is the WORST "upgrade" stereo in a car I've ever heard. Harsh, muddy bass, speakers bottom out easily even with bass below midpoint... it sucks.

Better off just upgrading speakers, sub and amps and maybe go the MFT swap route with OEMRadio.

I swapped out everything with Rockford. Sounds way better and spent about $1000 installed. Rockford components upfront and 3 ways for the rear hooked up to a 250x4 amp. Rockford P3 12" sun to a mono 750 amp. Pounds pretty hard but not too obnoxious.

I wouldn't buy a totaled car just for stereo parts and brakes. Huge waste of money. Better off trading in your car and taking the deprecation hit and then buying a premium.

I can probably end up making a few dollars on it. I've been buying and selling auction cars for a few years ;). Just need to be patient and wait for the right car at the right time.

But with everything I'm seeing there seems to be few if any good options other than going completely aftermarket which doesn't address the sucky head unit with it's smaller than tiny screen.

Thank you to those that have recommended me as an option..

I do offer a complete upgrade to the MyFord Touch or Sync 3 system.. You are in SA so I wouldn't mind one bit driving down and doing the install for you.. I love to visit the River walk.

But I can help you with an audio install also.. There are several options you have when it comes to upgrades.. just let me know what you want and I can try and help you figure out the route you want to go..

Thanks
