supercharged noise from turbo?

my car has 7000 miles on it but for a while now, especially on cold mornings, I can hear a winding sound, something almost like a supercharger noise coming from the turbo. as the car warms up it eventually goes away but is this normal?

If your car is a manual, I don't think its the turbo. My transmission has a slight whining sound when its really cold, but as I drive more and warm up the trans it goes away. I believe its the gears just trying to warm up.

Mine has started making a similar sound now that the temp has dropped.

Doesn't sound like the same issue. As for the OP, I believe there have been a couple of threads with a "supercharger-like" whine from the turbo in this forum, I'm not sure if the issue was resolved.

no, the noise comes from the right side where the turbo is but can hear in when I accelerate

You might have a leak at the turbo housing, sounds exactly like what I had. Now ford is replacing my turbo.
