He was simply hit too many times and had the pocket crush in around him.

True, but he did nothing to try to drive his team out of the ditch. When the Seahawks were down 31-0 at the half Russell Wilson was putting the team on his shoulders and doing everything possible to fire up the team.

When the Panthers were down 16-10 in the 4th Newton was sulking by himself on the sideline and looked like he had been run over by a truck. No inspiration or leadership to his team.
