If anyone has driven the old 997.2 GT3 or GT3RS, or any other hydraulic powered steering sports car such as the old M3 or the new M5 (I own the new M5 and find the steering very accurate and direct) how does the electronic steering in GT350 compare? Before you respond, to put things in perspective, I drove a Z06 and did not like the steering at all. That car also has electric steering and had a dead center and overall very artificial feel to it. How does ford compare to z06 and other HPS cars?

- Is the steering direct?
- Is there lag?
- Is the center dead?
- More importantly, does it feel artificial?

I think the only EPS that comes close to the old HPS is in the new 991 GT3. I havent driven a car with EPS where the above problems were not pronounced. These include:

- M3/M4
- Z06
- 991.1 C2S
- 991.2 C2S
- 991.1 Cayman S
- X5M

All of the above sucked big time and nothing comes close to my M5's good old HPS or that of the one you can find in 997 GT3s.

the truth is no EPS will ever beat HPS in feel.
having said that, the GT350's EPS is pretty good, it is pretty direct, no lag. the 16.5:1 ratio is not that good tho.

on the track my E92 M3's 12.5:1 HPS with fat steering wheel is a dream.

Ouch, 16.5 is kind of high no? Whats the lock to lock turn on this car?

You should try it. Mine has 0 deadspot and instantly responds to inputs.

The technical specs of the steering ratio seems slow, but there is no understeer in low/medium speed use. I've had other cars with "fast" racks that were far worse on the road. 04 EVO RS understeered like mad unless you were pushing hard. 04 STi had a deadzone on center, and once you put some stress on the steering rack bushings, that would begin to wander around further slowing the response.

It does feel artificial, but perhaps thats a good thing. I've driven other cars which would scream "feel" at you, but it was all BS. This has artificial weight which feels good, with no false messages of grip. It doesn't really talk to you till there is problems with the grip.
