When I took mine in, the dealer said they weren't given specifics on how many people had this issue, but they said "I definitely wasn't the first to have it happen". They said if the issue gets worse, it could lead to power steering failure. They're fully aware that this is an issue.
What are they doing to repair the issue?

They replaced the EPAS module which fixed the issue for a couple weeks. Then I started getting other steering problems that I think are related to the first issue. So I either got a second bad module, or there is something else wrong. I'll be taking it back in to the dealer soon.

larso2ka, did you get any more resolution on this problem? My friend and I each have a 2015 GT PP and they both do this when turning left. Any info you can help us with to provide to the local dealer would be great.

analog, my dealer replaced the EPAS steering gear. That seemed to have fixed the issue for me, I haven't felt the steering catch since. Hope this helps!

I've been waiting to see if anyone had there's repaired so I would have a good idea of what was wrong before I take mine in.
Thanks for the info larso2ka.

Subscribing...

I'm the other Central Oregon GT PP (re:Analog) who has this same issue. Is this a safety issue or just an annoyance you think?

Can be very annoying, but I'm more worried about the safety side of it since we don't really know why it does it. At least I can replicate the concern now so when I take it in I can show them what it does. Nothing worse than getting a call back from the dealer saying we could not duplicate the concern, theres nothing wrong with your car.

For me, it was also just an annoyance, but my dealership said it was an issue that could lead to power steering loss. But to be honest, I don't think they know much about the issue and are just basing that off previous steering loss issues they had in other cars like the Escape and Fusion last year. I was able to replicate mine every time, so it was easy for me to show them what was happening.

I made an appt for my car. It is bugging me and hard to drive around so, I'll try to get it fixed. The appt isn't until the 28th so I won't have any news about my experience for a little while.

Vehicle at the dealership now... Ford won't replace an EPAS gear unless tech can get a fail code on it... Not really getting anywhere on this... Anyone with updates, ideas?

I never took my car in as that appt was a week before my last big autox event of the year. I was afraid the car would be down for parts or something in my setup get messed up.

Yada yada yada to today...I'm pretty confident the problem has gone away. After the last autox event I had my alignment checked due to excessive rear tire wear and found the rear camber and toe had slipped. I had an extreme amount of rear toe in. So, I had that fixed.

I also got new tires and went with Cooper RS3-As as an all-season, basic tire to get me around through everything from mild winter days to road trips.

I can't feel the catch on left turns anymore. I can't say it was the alignment that fixed it because the car did this with the factory alignment and during the test drive before I even bought the car. The factory alignment was within specs. I do have an "autox alignment" which camber and toe are at the extremes of what would be acceptable, though.

Maybe it was the new tires. Or a combo of both tires and alignment. IDK, I hope it stays fixed.

Anyone, anything new?

Wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone knows anything new... I just rented a 2016 EcoBoost Prem conv from National in FLL and IT had this steering catch on left turns too! It wasn't as bad as what I experience in my '15 GT conv, but still strange and still happening in production runs. Last fall before mine went into winter hibernation my dealer still had no ideas, said we'd have to wait for a bulletin. Grrrr.

I still have an issue with mine funny enough when I took it in for service they failed to recreate the slippage so I just learn to deal with it. However find on different steering modes I feel it less.
