Steeda Oil Separator question

Does anyone have experience with Steeda Oil Separator? Is it any good?

There are two versions of those. Anyone know the difference other than color? One is also more expensive than the other.

I used one years ago. You don't want a separator you want a catch can. It grabs probably 3 times as much oil that a separator does.

What's the difference? I thought separators and catch cans were different names for the same thing. The oil/air mist first goes through the separator portion, and then drips down to the can at the bottom. Every few months you can remove the can and drain the oil (some have valves that let you drain without removing).

Am I missing something?

As far as choosing one, I'd look at the components inside that are used to separate the oil from the air. Some are more intricate and use more baffles than others.

Then there is the quality and look of the brackets and the lines/connectors.

IMO, these systems are more for peace of mind and looks than anything else (unless you have a DI engine, in which case I think they are much more necessary), so if I were spending the money, I'd want to get a kit with nice connectors and lines as well as a nice separator design. Not sure how the Steeda design stacks up against those from Mishimoto, UPR, and others.

A lot of people get them confused. They are not the same thing. This is what is known as an oil separator http://www.steeda.com/steeda-mustang-oil-separator-555-3711/

What you want is a separator that has baffling material in it which will catch the oil mist and allow it to drip down to rest in the bottom of the can. The problem I had with separators is they only catch some of the mist and a lot goes right through. I've used both types and currently use a nice can with great results on my blown '05 GT. I found a real nice one on ebay years ago and it definitely grabs up at least 3 times more oil that the Steeda separator I had. Same thing with my son's mustang...got rid of the Steeda separator for a can with baffling material.
