Hi Everyone, we will be getting in our first batch of the new Steeda "Cue Ball" style shift knobs for manual S550s soon.

If you want to get in on the action let me know and I can do an offer based on this. We can tie it in with our TriAx shifter and also our delrin / billet Reverse Lock Out Collars too, if you want for a full "Steeda Shift Package"

*Warning*

I received and (tried) to install mine today.

There is a warning from Steeda to NOT over tighten the knob during install.

Fair to say that 'over tighten' has a broad spectrum of interpretation. I was aiming for about as tight as the OE shifter (which seemed sensible at the time), and this happened.

My fault. But please let my mistake serve as a guide for you!

Sorry to see it..

I remember getting a mirror installed at my house. i said to the engineer I will finish it off as he said otherwise he would have to wait for the putty to set and the only thing left was to screw in the shelf. Simple he said, but DO NOT overtighten the screw.

No problem I said.....

Turns Screw.... Turns screw more...keeps turning screw....

To cheer this thread up, here is a nice pic and a review I received off someone who just installed their little Steeda shift pack (Tri Ax shifter, billet collar and black Cue Ball shift knob)

I think it's how it should have been, when it left the factory.
So effortless to change gear, as I said, I can now change gear at just the flick of my wrist, whilst my arm sleeps on the centre console!!
Gear selection not only feels easier but more clarified too.
Cue ball knob looks quirky and feels great. Glad I opted for the black cos it keeps a sophisticated look. may have looked a bit 'cheaper ' in the White. That also describes the GT350 steering wheel. Feels sporty sophisticated and expensive. "

I would recommend adding some more warnings to future shipments.

I do feel a little hard done by, as I was no where near the tightness of the OE shifter when it popped. 'Over tighten' is a very broad stroke and obviously open to interpretation. - its also not the best design if this can happen in the first place.

Ive installed the Steeda short-shifter today.

What a bitch of a job - access is awful, as you have to go around the exhaust and work up over the top of the prop-shaft.

If you attempt this, make sure you have a varied assortment of extensions and UJs for your sockets. I had to go out 1/2 way and buy more.

Also (and not for the first time) the supplied STEEDA instructions are awful, far better to watch the CJPP tutorial on youtube. The STEEDA sheet misses out several important steps for the reconstruction of the shifter assembly.

Several instructions made me laugh as to their implied simplicity, when in reality its a sod of a job (splitting the shifter housing under the car, for example). It would be very difficult NOT to damage the gasket between the 2 halves.... mine got chewed up a bit, so complemented it with some universal automotive sealant.

The supplied rubber bung for the shiftknob is also too large, and wont allow you screw the OE shifter back on. You need to shave its length by about 25%.

The results are good though - nice, positive and unsurprisingly quicker shifting! Worth the asking price and just about worth the effort. If you have access to a lift, use it. Laying on your back makes it a lot more work.
