2nd time this has happened. Here’s what happened today…
Foot on the brake. Hit the start button and nothing - dead silence. Tried it twice more. On the third time it started. Connection issue or what? Thanks

There’s your problem! Foot on the brake? You need to push the clutch in all the way in!!!

In all seriousness I’ve had this issue before on a previous mustang. I never found a solution to it but the dealer claimed it was related to the fuel getting warm. Something about vapors in the tank or something? I would check with your dealer and they can rule out something like a weak battery or a starter that is going bad.

Thanks for your input. Had a feeling it would only be a dealer fix.

They would probably do this anyway but I think another issue to look into is making sure the car is making adequate fuel pressure. Could a plugged injector cause this? I don’t know, just thinking out loud.

Are you hitting the starter button to fast, there is a very slight delay. Push it, if going from ignition off to start in one quick move. It can act that way.

Car boots runs self test each time the power/ignition is turned on. We're talking nanoseconds , but none the less it is there. Just something to know watch for .

Good advice here, just like turning the key in a traditional starter, the proper procedure is to move the key to "on" position first, let the car boot up, and only when it is done (usually indicated by gauge needle sweeps or the extinguishing of warning lights) then move the key to the "start" position to crank the engine. Mimic the same idea with your button presses, let the car boot up after your first press and run its self checks before attempting to start the engine.

I'm sure you are probably already doing this and you have some other problem, but this is the proper way to do it nonetheless.

I don't know if this is unique to my car, but lets say I approach the car in the morning and I unlock it with the Fob and open the door, at that time there is a rather noticeable strange noise of what I believe to be some electronic systems coming alive and powering up, maybe the fuel pump I don't know.... I have been meaning to record it and post it up here. Not worried about it per see, but its a strange noise and car has always started fine.

Thanks guys. Maybe I was acting too fast, but didn’t know you could go slower in a Mach 1.

perfectly normal. it is the fuel pump. i thought my car was possessed the first few times i caught it making that sound.
@Mach U does your car make that noise? sort of a clicking sound for a second when you first unlock and open the door?

Yes, my car makes the identical sound when opening the door. I guessed that was the car booting itself much like my desktop computer. Didn’t realize the starter needs the same attention.

If it makes any difference I jump in the car and hit the start button and it fires up. Come to think of it my last 3 cars have all been push button start and I just hit it once. If you have time it wouldn’t hurt to get it documented by a dealer in case it presents itself as a bigger issue down the road.

If you have the key in your pocket, the door should open without having to press the fob.

I just now realized that the door does not automatically lock when you walk away, like it does on the wife’s old Miata and her new CX30. On the M1 you need to hit the button on the handle or hit the fob to lock. So that means I’ve been leaving my car completely unlocked everywhere I’ve been for the last 3 months………

All true, I have left my car vulnerable a few times from not pressing the lock button.

all of my cars have the feature where you touch the handle to lock/unlock. i still get the fob out every damn time and push the button. its just hardwired in me at this point. i don't think i'll ever be able to relearn how to lock the car without the fob :cwl:
