What would be the difference between an SSM (Special Service Message ?? )
and a TSB ?

Nothing, just different acronyms used by Ford.

Both are internal documents to Ford and their Service Centers to notify them of potential fixes for similar customer complaints or issues with specific models. These are not made available to the public, but the public does find out the info eventually.

If the car is under warranty, a TSB or SSM is fixed with no out of pocket expense to the customer. If the car is out of warranty, customer pays cost of repair.
