I am in the middle of installing my CJPP lowering springs but run into a couple of snags. I'm hoping someone can help!

1. I have the strut out of the car and the spring fully compressed (as compressed as the spring compressor will allow).. but the spring is still not loose inside the strut.. it still seems to be tight against the top and bottom. I watched the CJ video and it looks the same but I am worried about taking the top nut off if there is still any tension there?

2. I can't get that top nut off anyway because the whole shaft just spins when I hit it with the impact. Is there a trick to getting it off?

thanks!

Mine was barely loose when I had the spring compressed as well. As long as most of it is compressed you probably won't have any issues taking the nut off. Now as far as that goes, I had the same issue while using a ratchet but when I switched to impact gun it came right off...not sure what to tell you there.

Thanks

the impact broke the nut loose and span it half way off but then the shaft just started spinning with it

I found some other threads that say you need to put a socket on the end of the shaft while holding the nut with something... will give it a try tonight

I watched a ton of videos and the spring always seems to still be snug against both ends of the strut when fully compressed.. I guess I am just paranoid about that!

all done..

used long nose vice grips to hold the nut and turned the end of the shaft anti-clockwise with a ratchet

and the spring didn't fire across the garage when the nut came off!

I am hoping the rears go on easier than the fronts
