Aeroforce Interceptor? Put it wherever you want it, displays any two parameters, and the two little white-ish circles at the top flash red when whatever condition you set it for goes 'true'. Mine goes off at 5900 rpm (4.6L).

Looks cool, but on my GT Prem with Shaker Pro, there is a tweeter mounted right there on the a-pillar. What does it plug into to get the data?

It plugs into the OBD2 port, and you can mount it anywhere doesn't have to be A pillar

Or use Torque and a blutooth OBD2 reader - That'll give you digital speed output. (the gauge style can be changed as well)

What Adaraas said. Perhaps you could mount it a little higher up on the A-pillar so as to avoid obstructing the tweeter.

When all of my driving was street driving, I'd have agreed with you without question because I am very much analog-oriented. But out on the track the digital display is easier to work with as a driver improvement tool, and getting it up above the dash makes it far more visible. Mounting it on the A-pillar gets it out of your face all the time so you won't tend to fixate on your exact mph instead of paying full attention to the really important stuff that's ahead of you (like other cars and where the black stuff is headed off to next).

The side benefit in street driving is that under certain lighting conditions it is easier to read than the OE analog speedometer and does not require any time for your eyes to adjust for either focus or brightness to dimness. There is a disadvantage in that electronic/LED displays in general are difficult to read if you're wearing polarized sunglasses.
