Hi Guys/Girls/Whatevers,

I'm getting a misfire code for cylinder 7. Car is still driveable, code will clear but returns 4 or 5 starts later.

Plugs only have a few hundred miles on them, so I don't want to buy a new set. Just 1 will do for diagnostic purposes just now.

Anybody know where to get them? Nearest Mustang garage is 100 miles. Need to take out a mortgage to buy 1 on Ebay, if they have them in stock. Two mortgages if you buy a set of 8. None of the local factors online stock them, although not asked them face to face yet.

Or does anyone have a usable spare used one they can pop in the post? I meant to ask last service for them to leave the old ones in the boot but forgot. Bloody old age creeping up, that or Covid.

+1 on changing the coil pack to see if the error moves. If it does is the coil, if the error code remains, is likely the plug. Buy one and go. Why would you replace all 8 with so few miles? I'd do that if it had 1K miles given that they have 50-100K lifespan.

If the error code continues, I would look deeper.

Oh to live in USA where Mustang spark plugs are 2 a penny.

I agree with what you've said, that's my plan.

From what I've seen so far a single plug is £47+ and a set of 8 a more reasonable £75. That's if they have them in stock.

Plenty on Ebay from the US at $12 or so but postage and import duties kill it.

Giving a shout out to Mustang Maniac. No association with them but they seem to have a fair selection of bits and pieces for old and new Mustangs. They sold me a single plug for a reasonable £12 plus the dreaded postage. But to be fair it would probably have cost me more in petrol than it cost in postage if I could have found one locally.

Pretty sure it was plug no 7 giving the grief. It looks like it was dropped in the hole or on the floor before fitting as the electrode was bent and almost touching the tip.

Went round the rest of them to check, gave them a little clean and a dab of copperslip on the threads. All seemed fairly clean and new. So at least the dealership changed them at the last service.

Car sounds a lot smoother now. Not gone for a spin yet, will do that tomorrow.

A bit happier now, seen too many you tubes of inlet manifold flapper failure.

If you go to Rock Auto plugs range from £2 to £10 each plus delivery fron US. Used this company a few times snd saved a fortune compared to UK prices.

Thanks Hinch.

Problem has been sorted. See above.

Good reminder to others to keep a good used set if possible.

Standard plugs as used by the dealer.

Motorcraft SP 548 pre gapped at .053" or 1.3mm.

Slightly disconcerting when you're used to normal gaps of +/- 25 thou.

Edited coz I got 5 & 4 the wrong way round, oops.
