S550 non-start tip after accident OR salvage repair

Not sure where to really to put this, but it's "electronic/fuel" related - so Mods feel free to move anywhere.

If anyone has purchased a salvaged S550 that was in an accident where there was air bag deployment, BUT the frontal engine compartment and engine is intact (ie: no physical damages to engine components or wiring harnesses) - try this tip if the vehicle is in a non-start condition:

Event Notification Signal

The event notification feature provides other vehicle subsystems with information pertaining to SRS deployment or fuel cutoff status.

When an impact occurs that exceeds a pre-determined threshold, the RCM sends a signal on a dedicated circuit to the body control module (BCM).

When the BCM receives the crash signal input, it initiates fuel cutoff to disable the fuel system.

After the fuel system is disabled, the vehicle can be re-started after carrying out the following steps:

1. Turn the ignition ON and wait 10 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition OFF.
3. Turn the ignition ON.
4. Turn the ignition OFF.
5. Turn the ignition ON.

Also here's info for the S550 regarding other SRS related parts that should be examined and/or replaced after a collision or attempt at salvage repair:

Ford Mustang
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering:

SRS Fault Present:
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Remove the RCM fuse. Refer to Wiring Diagram Cell 11/Section 700-01 for fuse and relay information.
• Turn the ignition ON.
• Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out a Network Test. Verify that the RCM does not respond to the Network Test. If the RCM passes the Network Test, remove the correct RCM fuse and repeat the Network Test to verify before proceeding.
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
• Wait at least one minute before continuing vehicle service.

PARTS THAT MUST BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DEPLOYMENT

When any deployable device or combination of devices have deployed and/or the RCM has DTC B1193:00 (event threshold exceeded) in memory, the repair of the vehicle SRS is to include the removal of all deployed devices and the installation of new deployable devices, the removal and installation of new impact sensors and the removal and installation of a new RCM.

Removal of all deployed devices and the installation of new deployable devices: [AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL; AIRBAG, INSTRUMENT PNL; AIRBAG,KNEE BOLSTER; AIRBAG, FRONT SEAT (Coupe); AIRBAG, FRONT SEAT (UPR & LWR Convertible); AIRBAG, ROOF (Coupe)]

Removal and installation of new impact sensors and the removal and installation of a new RCM: [AIRBAG SENSOR, FRONT, AIRBAG SENSOR, FRT DOOR; AIRBAG SENSOR, QTR PANEL; MODULE, AIRBAG CONTROL]

When the driver airbag has deployed, install a new steering wheel, clockspring and steering column.

New driver safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed if the vehicle is involved in a collision that results in deployment of the
driver safety belt pretensioner.

New front passenger safety belt systems (including retractors, buckles and height adjusters) must be installed if the vehicle is involved in a collision that results in deployment of the front passenger safety belt pretensioner.

Install new safety belt(s) at any seating position(s) where deployment has occurred and the safety belt(s) were used.

Anytime the Safety Canopy or side air curtain has deployed, a new headliner and new roof pillar upper trim panels with attaching hardware must be installed. Make sure the headliner includes the word AIRBAG where it meets each roof B-pillar trim panel. Remove any other damaged components or hardware and replace with new. Always use new torque-prevailing type J-nuts when installing the Safety Canopy.

PARTS THAT MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF DAMAGED

NOTE: Deployable devices such as airbags, pretensioners and inflatable belt inflators, may deploy alone or in various combinations depending on the impact event.

NOTE: Always refer to the appropriate workshop manual procedures prior to carrying out vehicle repairs affecting the SRS and safety belt system.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

NOTE: After installation of new OCS components, use a diagnostic scan tool to carry out the OCS Reset procedure as instructed in the workshop manual.

When a vehicle has been involved in a collision and the OCSM has DTC B1193:00 stored in memory, the repair of the OCS is to include the following procedures for the specified system:

• For a bladder-type OCS , inspect for damage and repair as necessary. If installation of an OCS component is required, an OCS service kit must be installed.

When any damage to the impact sensor mounting points or mounting hardware has occurred, repair or install new mounting points and mounting hardware as needed.

Inspect the entire vehicle for damage, including the following components:
• Steering column lower shaft (verify the length is correct)
• Instrument panel knee bolsters and mounting points
• Safety Canopy and mounting points
• Instrument panel braces and brackets
• Instrument panel and mounting points
• Seats and seat mounting points
• Safety belts, safety belt buckles, safety belt retractors and safety belt anchors.
• SRS wiring, wiring harnesses and connectors

After carrying out the review and inspection of the entire vehicle for damage, repair or install new components as needed.

• Connect a diagnostic scan tool and view the BCM CRASH PID.
• If the BCM CRASH PID is present and reads 'Yes', use the diagnostic scan tool to carry out the BCM Crash Status Reset under "Electrical • Service Functions".
• If the BCM CRASH PID reads 'No' or is not present, complete any necessary repairs before returning the vehicle to the customer.

Safety Belt Procedure After a Collision:
• Before installing the new safety belt assembly, inspect the safety belt attaching areas for damage and distortion. If the attaching points are damaged and distorted, work the sheet metal back to its original shape and structural integrity.
• Carry out the appropriate Functional Test procedure for all seating positions.
