Anyone know how to get a replacement APIM?

parts.ford.com doesn't seem to have them.
Ford parts is a train wreck. Do I dare ask why and if it's broken it "should" be under warranty.

Outside of the ford dealer you can get a salvage one by looking at car-parts.com or car-partspro.com (registration required but gives a little more detail)

TSB 17-2068: No Rear View Camera Image At Freezing Ambient Temperatures - Built On 01-Jul-2015 - 31-Dec-2016 (mine: 23-Dec-2015)

I started a thread about this on 2-Feb-17 (22,000 miles) after my dealship said it wasn't a reported issue* and the TSB came out on 18-Apr-17 (27,000 miles)... however it didn't freeze again (and thus wasn't an issue anymore) until after my warranty was expired (46,000 miles now)... until it started freezing again.

*I didn't leave the vehicle for them to hunt around on because I have a 30 minute commute and the problem could not be repeated by the time I got to the dealership anyhow. I specifically asked if there was a TSB about the camera not working in freezing weather and they said "No," which was correct at the time. The TSB appeared 2 months later after the freezing weather was finished.

Did the dealer make a service appointment to check the issue within warranty and do they have a record of it or do you have a record of it?

If so then you "should" be covered as long as you have the paperwork and the bulletin. You have nothing to lose. Now, was it also a "recall" recalls are outside the bounds of warranty.

why dont you contact jason at http://www.fordpimods.com/ ??
Already did. He has 18's which won't initialize with 16 data. We're both curious what Ford's solution will be.

I did not start a ticket, as by February in the south freezing temperatures are not so predictable... especially during service hours. I did ask them to note that I brought up the issue, but i doubt that ever happened.

The main issue to me is that the TSB requires the APIM to be tested while it is freezing outside. That did not happen once between April and July (my warranty expiration) so the APIM couldn't have even been checked after the TSB was released. I have meticulous records of my mileage and date at every fuel fill and at the very least a thread dated 2/2/2017 which I started after the dealer said they knew of no such common issue.

As strange as that seems I can tell you that in my field, systems technology, we have been known to do just that!

Throw it in the freezer for a few hours to get it down to a good freeze and pop it back in. Just the APIM IMO as the screen is not the issue and you don't need to risk damaging it.

I mean I'd figure that would be standard procedure for anybody not living in the Arctic.....

Except that doesn't work...

From TSB 17-2068
Service Procedure
1. Was the vehicle built on or after 01-Jul-2015 and through 31-Dec-2016?
...
2. Is the customer reporting a SYNC display message of Please check your surroundings for safety along with no rear view camera image when in reverse gear which occurs during an ambient temperature range of -5C to 5C (23F to 41F)?
...
3. Start the engine and set the heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls to maximum heat with the blower speed on high. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. This will allow the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) to reach normal operating temperature. Is the SYNC system displaying a message of Please check your surroundings for safety along with no rear view camera image when in reverse gear?
1. yes - ...
2. No - replace the APIM.

Record the outside air temperature displayed on the SYNC 3 screen at the time of the failure in the technician description of the 1878 form.
emphasis mine.

First, you don't want to alter anything you're trying to diagnose. Nor do you want to tear into the dashboard and subject the modules to a condition they might not have been having trouble with in the first place... that's just irresponsible.

Second, by the time you got the APIM out of the freezer and reinstalled, it would no longer be freezing internally.

Finally, the ambient temperature displayed by the SYNC 3 system would be the true(ish) temperature outside, not the internal temp of the APIM.

I don't know any automotive shops with a drive-in freezer.
