The office have shipped me off to Mountain View (San Francisco bay - where Google HQ is) for the week - and as the office are footing the bill (including car rental), when the guy at Avis said "wanna Mustang - $50 for the upgrade?", what could I say?

So, I'm spending the week having to drive a Mustang around San Francisco Bay in the sunny California springtime. Sucks eh?

I might not have slapped down the cash for a Mustang back in the UK yet (new baby/paternity leave last month pushed it back into later in the year), but this is certainly providing a bit of an stop-gap until then :)

I know, V6 not as much fun as V8 - but even the base model is a grand place to spend time.

And you're sure about this? Rental firms have form for being economical with the truth to get you to upgrade. I've been back to the airport the day after to swap a car that was going to cost me $50 to upgrade. Turned out it was per day and i was there for two weeks. Also the thing had chrome spinners and a remote-start that kept activating...

Nope - absolutely sure it's $50 for the week - made sure of that (after the pain of hidden hire charges in SFO back in November). Top Tip - use Avis, not Alamo as the charges they show in the UK are inclusive (Alamo slap on all sorts of sh*t).

meh. I spent 2 weeks on Maui last summer in a 2015 S550 convertible. It just reaffirmed you need a 5.0.
