The dealer I ordered from has gotten a few mustangs in stock the last few days...none with PP, but they do have one coming that is PP, it's awaiting shipment and has all the options I wanted except for the color...However, now that i have seen the color in person (ruby red) I certainly wouldn't mind that color.

My question is, if I wanted to buy the ruby red PP they have coming in, how hard would it be to tell them to forget about my comp orange PP I ordered? It's not even being built until 11/2 and the ruby red PP will be at the dealer in around 10 days or less..

Is this something I can do?

Then I will be driving a new mustang before halloween!

I did the same thing actually, had a Race Red GT PP on order since May 20th with Xplan and got a VIN only a few weeks ago. My dealer allowed me to change to one of their dealer stock orders which should be delivered any day now. They are similar cars except no PP (but now that I've weighed the potential extra money it will take to own a PP with having to buy a new set of tires for winter, more expensive brakes, I'm actually fine not getting the PP like I originally ordered). So, hopefully your dealership would be ok with you switching as long as they think they can sell your original order. My dealership was fine with moving my Xplan to the dealer stock as well.

right, and I don't see how it would be a problem, as they have not even built my car yet...doesnt that mean the dealer could go in and change anything they wanted?

also, I keep hearing about this X-plan...what is that?

Xplan is a discounted price that pretty much anyone can get if they are a member of certain groups like Mustang Club of America. There are some threads about Xplan you can read if you are interested.

^ This. RR is nice but there's a million of them out there including 14's. CO looks much better with the PP and you know it'll be a limited run.
Yellows , oranges, greens usually never run more than two years.

edit: Also if that car doesn't get here for ten days, that's less that one week before you car is made & you're in Illinois so that's only about one week transit time.
You'll probably only be saving 2 maybe 3 weeks anyway.

I made the same decision. I got all the options I wanted and the original color I wanted (Magnetic) after seeing more videos and pictures from members here, I knew I made the right decision to go with the one In Transit vs. my order that was not assigned a VIN. This dealership accepted my Xplan, too!

Keep in mind just because a dealership does do Xplan does not mean they have to accept it for the new Mustang. I called several dealerships with cars in Awaiting Shipment and every single one except Five Star Ford refused Xplan on the new mustang.
