for rock chips on paint like the bumper, after using a touchup pen how do you make it smooth after the paint dries on? can you just wipe it over with acetone to smooth it downThe proper way to handle chips is sanding, putty, sanding, paint prepping, and painting followed by clear coating. If you don't have the equipment, it's better to just bring them to the shop both financially and quality wise.
If you want to do it the janky way, get yourself a black touch-up paint and just cover it up.
You need to put adequate amount of paint so it forms a surface tension (a dome). When it's fully dry, apply some acetone/paint thinner/break fluid on a cloth and wipe it till it levels as if you're sanding it.for rock chips on paint like the bumper, after using a touchup pen how do you make it smooth after the paint dries on? can you just wipe it over with acetone to smooth it down
So what are the odds while doing this that I'll ruin the surrounding paint? You need to put adequate amount of paint so it forms a surface tension (a dome). When it's fully dry, apply some acetone/paint thinner/break fluid on a cloth and wipe it till it levels as if you're sanding it.

I don't think the surrounding paint will be affected since the wheels already clear coated. Acetone and other solutions should only cut thru the layers of the touch-up paint but you can always put masking tape on the unwanted areas. So what are the odds while doing this that I'll ruin the surrounding paint?
Is it really that easy?
