Hey guys,

So I will be swapping to my stock wheels with all seasons for winter driving soon, and I've been thinking about getting my GTPP wheels finished in a different color sometime this winter. I like the gunmetal/gloss dark grey look, but I've also seen GTPP wheels offered in "Black Chrome" from ebay sellers who refinished them. It looks pretty cool but I don't know how you would get this done if you already have a set. Any insights on this? Would a powder coating shop be able to do that or this a specialist thing? The description of the process seems to indicate it is similar.

Would it be much more expensive than powder coating? If it is like 2x the cost I'll probably just get them powdercoated.

On that note, I live near Philadelphia. Anyone have a good experience with a local powder coating shop?

Any input appreciated.

Any good powder coat shop should be able to do it, just need to poke around & find one in your area that has a solid rep. for quality work.

So a black chrome there are two types

One is a chrome powdercoat shot on then a tinted clear shot over it which is more of the normal occurance.

The other is actually stripping the wheel plating it with copper then nickle then chrome then a tint, pretty expensive and time consuming.

Any good shop can can do the black chrome nickle look for you.

Thanks guys. It seems like the first option you mentioned might make the most sense since it is basically a form of powdercoating. I imagine this would be more durable than plating right?

I've had tons of parts powder coated and that's the route I would take. Should cost about 200-400 to get your wheels coated and the color and finish options are almost limitless!

OK, I was going to ask the same question. Does anyone have a pic of powder coat type black chrome? Another question is how much does it cost to widen an aluminum wheel?

There are only a couple companies that offer wheel widening services that I know of. Iirc, it's about $200 per wheel depending on wheel and how much you're widening. Get ahold of these guys www.weldcraftwheels.com they did the wheels on my fox.

This place does alot of black chrome. They're on ebay too. Here's a link to an exchange for a gtpp rear black chromed.

Thanks, I'll contact them and check around. I'd like to widen my 9'' rears to 10'' for some 285's and go staggered. Of course I'm really digging the black chrome these days too. Not trying to jack your thread OP, I'm just interested too.

I was told 200-250 a rim for powder coating
and roughly 350-400 per rim for black nickle.

And just mentioning regular Chrome seems to get you lynched here!
I went with the powder coat niche calls "black chrome PVD"

Yeah I don't know if it would be cost effective even with an exchange by the time you figure in shipping
