Normally, no. However, on occasion the extra light helps keep one alert on a long drive at night when time is of the essence in getting from point A to point B.
Red bull works even better !

Not my experience, and done my share of night driving. Interior lighting is reflective, red would not be as.

I'll just take your word for it .

It would be only on the passenger side. Not distracting that way yet brightens the cabin some. And, does not destroy ones night vision.

Between De Blasio and Cuomo, is there any wonder NY is a joke ?
Yeah, NY gets worse and worse on a daily basis. My older daughter is up here and just starting her career, so I’ll be staying for a while. My younger daughter is stationed at Ft. Hood, so I go down to visit whenever I can (we usually meet in San Antonio).
As far as driving with the dome lights on, it’s not something I normally do. But if I get pulled over at night, I always turn it on out of respect for the officer’s safety. But you have me thinking, white LED on the driver side to make it legal, red on the passenger side since they’re more likely to turn it on at night would work.

Exactly how I do it. TX has no lighting restriction that I am aware of. Props to your daughter. Make sure she is aware of her surroundings at all times. As a retired MP/CID E-5, I'm not comfortable with the situation as present down there. Way to many internal issues that need to be addressed now, not later !

Yeah, it’s a shit show down there. Unfortunately, my daughter has experienced it first hand. I’ve stayed out of it at her request, but now I’ve started to reach out to contacts I made over 2 decades of experience, so hopefully that helps her some.

Interesting discussion. I felt the same way with the dome lights until I bought my 2019 Ranger. The Lariats use leds in the dome light upper console. They are very, very bright white light. Yes, very nice, but you really get nearly blinded by having either side on while looking at, say a map or something at night. I like them but in the Mustang where your head is so close to the lights and forward more than the Ranger I am thinking Ford was concerned it would be TOO bright.

Just a thought, but I might try them in one of my Mustangs...

In the Mustang, it is not an issue. I've installed white LEDs in all of my S550's. Bullitt, CA Special, GT350 HEP and, now the GT. I am thinking red on the passenger side for cabin illumination at night and, blue on the drivers side as it is closer in color to a white LED.
