Like many of you on here, I would like to enhance the glorious appearance that the Mustang has. So far, I've planned to do vinyl racing stripes and possibly side scoops. However, I want to protect it at the same time with Opticoat2.

Thats where my dilemma comes in. Should I Opticoat the car first (straight from the dealer) and then apply stripes and side scoops OR is it possible/beneficial to add in the stripes and scoops before applying the Opticoat?

I would opticoat afterwards to add protection to the vinyl as well. It should bond with it. At least I asked that question when I had my roof wrapped on my last car. I opticated the vinyl (gloss) to try and help prevent scratches. I still have 15cc of Opticoat 2.0 that I will apply to the vinyl on my Mustang as well. I'm sure matt vinyl is much better but the gloss type will scratch very easily.

I have done opticoat first. This protects the factory paint and leaves room to fix any issues in case you want to remove the racing stripes later.
Because there will be an extra layer of protection between the stripes and the clear coat on your car and will save you from respraying the car.
I am getting the racing stripes opticoated as well after installing on top of already opticoated car.
Please give some time to heal opticoat though before putting the stripes on.
This was also confirmed with the place where I got the opticoat done. Hope that helps.

This is the way I would do it also as I'd imagine the stripes at some point will start to peel and breakdown and need to be taken offend/or replaced and that way your paint is still protected when it comes off.

i had the same questions after talking to my guy i had the vinyl done first and the side scoops attached.
two main reasons, the vinyl is soft and with the protection swirls and scratches less likely and the adhesion is better onto the paint, especially the double sided tape for my side scoops.
Just the way i did it not saying its the right way.
if you remove the 3rd party stuff in the future you will need to do some correction regardless.

Spoke to my detailer and striper today. Striper concerned that optician will gloss the matt stripes. Also commented that he will prepaid the surface before striping and believes it may remove the paint protection. Either way will have some issues but the detailer and striper will collaborate to get the best result even if it's a partial reapply over the top of the vinyl

sounds like a good plan, i have gloss black roof, no stripes so a bit different application.
