Morning all,

Just had my first mustang warning light (not a great start to the day), telling me I need to change the oil soon.
I've just ticked over 3000 miles.
Wondering whether you guys have had a similar experience, whether you'd think it's worth getting it done by an AD or an indie etc?

Cheers

How long have you had the car?
If you know when it was built, also what was the build day?

Reason I ask is when the car is in for PDI, the dealership should give it a pre delivery "service" (involves resetting the oil life indicator, some aren't doing this, so it'll already be 3 months down). Then obviously if you drive "normally" it'll run until your build date, unless ford reset it then it'll run for a year like a service indicator. However if you drive reckless etc etc, it'll come up "sooner".

Common fault (WITH FORDS STAFF lol) with them not resetting the OLI when it's in for PDI. Some have wangled a free service out of it!

I think mine came on after less than 2k miles, luckily I had already planned the unofficial 1.5k oil/filter change.

Funny you say that as my light came on at just under 7,000 km (4,400 miles) and I too thought it was early. Just changed mine last night on my own and it came out black'ish.

I bought the car 10 months ago but it's likely a year old.

This oil you're draining is probably cleaner than my screenwash ;)

Probably cleaner than a hooker spit... But anything else is a push!

Cheers Manders,

The car was delivered in November 2016, no idea of the build date though.

How would I find out whether the oil life indicator was reset during the PDI?

Thanks

Go to the oil life indicator, it's a percentage basis but simple maths will prevail to suss it out, obviously the "simple maths" doesn't include driving like a nutter, heavy revving etc etc etc (which none of us here do ). But can give you a decent spin of how long time wise is left (1% = 3.5 days, 10%=35 days, 100% = 350 days - just for simplicities sake so you're not using 3.6525/36.525/365.25)

So I'm guessing that it's meant to last for a year then?
Just checked and I've apparently got 3% left, which by your maths is about 10 days or so. Definitely suggests it wasn't reset in the PDI.

What would you guys suggest doing? Take it back to the dealer I got it from (long way from home), take it to my local ford dealer or just ignore it?

Best tactics t get a free service or change out of it? :D

Just reset it yourself, will be fine.

Free service, tell ford the oil is tosh and they messed up, demand a free oil change.
