As an ex-owner of a F30 335xi, which uses the same exact motor as the 435xi (N55), the GT should be faster from a 40 mph rolling start. You can either get a manual or the ZF8 in the 4 series. I'm guessing your buddy had a ZF8, which for a non-DCT auto transmission, it's a fast shifter. Either way, you should've won, even if the difference wasn't too much. Or he had some mods.

435xi should be about 3750-3775 lbs. Even if he had the 435xi Gran Coupe, it should weigh in around 3885 lbs. The N55 is underrated like a typical BMW, and makes around 320 hp/330 tq (at crank). Either way, the Mustang GT should've won. The Ecoboost is a better model to compare to the 435i/335i.
Yeah, he's not stock, Tune I would say, The N55 just like the ecoboost has a Gimp tune from the factory to keep them well below the M series, and just like the Eco, become monsters when you change it.

I've walked stock 335s/435s, In my Ecoboost here with just a Cobb OTS Tune, They only hung with me while in my draft, as soon as I get a chance to give move over and they get a face full of wind resistance they fall behind fast. Last one to come up behind me (Now with full bolt-ons and Adam tune), couldn't hang with me even in my draft. GT should kill a stock one no problem.

I haven't had the chance to let one get in front of me and run him down like I did for that Audi S5 and Merc, but when I do I will definitely post the dash cam vid .

Good job Glenn. Keep us up to date on your Autobahn "accomplishments"!

And to the OP, I've seen a couple of M4 guys looking at my S550 longingly. The S550 is better looking than the M4, which I would give the opposite nod to previous generations of both cars. BMW is notorious for underrating their cars. So figure any quoted horsepower as near whp. A new M4 at 3600 lbs. and 435 hp running low 12's?!! Figure an M4 is running more like 480 hp stock.

I used to think BMW was underrating their cars as well. Turns out, its less of that and more of a really early and flat torque curve for these turbo cars. They are producing max torque (and correspondingly high HP) very early in the rev range and this, combined with the quick shifts from their 8 speeds means that the car is always and quickly in the power zone. I think MT or a another big outlet shared the dyno graphs of the M4 Vs the E92 (V8) M3.

In their prior NA engines (and the Coyote to a much lesser extent), the torque curve is more peaky, meaning, a lot of time is spent outside of the maximum HP and torque zones. They feel much better though IMHO and are more purist.
