2015 Petty's Garage Stage 1 Mustang GT
Hi all! I'm new to the forum; this is my first post. Long story short, I bought a new Mustang a couple weeks ago, and I'm really enjoying it. It's a 2015 MT PP GT Premium that was sent to finishing school at Petty's Garage in NC. It came home with a "Stage 1" setup, which includes a TVS blower, ford racing tune and CAI, custom magnaflow exhaust, and a bunch of other goodies. I've put about 500 miles on it so far and am just getting it broken in. According to the guys at Petty's Garage, it's making around 670 at the crank and approximately 595 rwhp. Once the weather breaks, they've invited me down to do some dyno runs and some other fun stuff. While I'm down there, I want to address any additional mechanical items I can...

Here's where I need your guidance: this car is my DD. I specifically bought it because I was tired of driving a boring car back and forth to work every day and I wanted something fun. It's plenty fast enough for me (at least for the time being), so I'm not really looking at stepping up to the 727hp "stage 2". I'm interested in knowing what additional "goodies" I should add to the car to increase the driving enjoyment. I've read good things about the Barton shifter, I've been told to replace the rear axels so they don't give out when I take it to the track, and I've added a few other things to my "to be considered" list based on what I've read here...

So, give me your thoughts! What would you add/change/augment to make a blown DD more enjoyable and, hopefully, more bulletproof? I want to pre-stage the parts at the shop so I can plan how long the trip needs to be to have everything installed and tested.

Thanks in advance!!

I think if your not dragging with sticky tires then you don't need the axle upgrade or the oil pump gear or timing gear either. I would look into BMR suspension items for wheel hop though.

Edit: by the way welcome to the forums and great choice in engine to add a power adder to.

Thanks for the quick response! Wheel hop does seem to be quite pronounced. I'll check out BMR!

Our cars sound somewhat similar at this point. I'm going ahead with the 727 tune because I've heard a couple of good reports on it. Noticeable power increase with better drivability. I'm going ahead with the oil pump gear for insurance. My problem with the car is the IRS. I think it is worlds better than a straight axle (unless your going drag racing) but my current configuration still feels like the rear of the car is moving around under acceleration. I'm swapping my springs for a complete coilover system and some BMR stuff recommended by others (cradle lockout, trailing arms, and vertical links) in hopes of tightening the IRS and overall handling. This should also remove some of the wheel hop. Not sure how the Conti's are working for you but I can tell you that The Michelin Pilot Super Sports are fantastic on this car (or any other for that matter). Good luck with the car!

The Continentals are hard as rocks when they're cold, but seem pretty ok once they warm up. We had the first nice day since I bought the car today, and I took it to get the windows tinted. I think my first two mechanical upgrades are going to be a new shifter and something to combat the wheel hop. After some research, I'm leaning toward the MGW shifter, but I need to learn more about the various BMR components to identify a path forward. Thanks!

I bought my Barton last year. Very nice piece but yes I've heard great things about the MGW.
