Hey, forgive me for asking should this be answered somewhere else, but I was wondering how much of an improvement adding modern summer tires would have on a classic muscle car.

I was cleaning my room and came across a book about muscle cars, was few broke 14's and wondered how much better their 0-60's-1/4's would be if you replaced the original stuff with modern stuff, way before you do stuff like upgrading the brakes, Trans and stuff

Just asking for the hell of it and so when my friends see how fast they were, I can quickly correct them

Thanks for taking a look and replying :)

The tire technology at the time was a significant limiting factor

It would help them for sure but they still were not nearly as fast as what we are seeing now. My buddies SS396 375 hp version manual with aftermarket cam and exhaust went 12.90 on today's tires. All else was factory stock (it's a 50k mile all original car, red with black vinyl top, pretty car).

My dad, who grew up in the original 60's and early 70's muscle era (he had several different ones, mainly dodge guy) says "there's a reason they don't build them like they used to". Lol

I can imagine

My old auto teacher who ran a muscle shop in toms river (http://coasttransmissionandperformance.com/) said he'd add two brake lines for starters

Then you gotta consider that there's the limited traction to begin with and how anyone with the $$$ can buy it, made them dangerous. I still wanna experience one someday, any advice?

Old or new better summer times make a HUGE difference in performance. (and weight depending on size/model)
