manders it is big.... multi-storey is a night mare
Multi-stories are a nightmare in anything bigger than a Morris Minor - but if soccer-mums can fit Range Rover Vogues in there, then I don't think we need to worry about the Mustang being able to fit.

That's one thing I'm not looking forward to is multi stories.

I got my transit down 18 stories yesterday in record time. Wouldn't even risk it in the mustang!
Yeah well transits look good with wall and a big dent in the front of them from launching them off the edge of the 18th storey, Mustangs, not so much!

Multi-storey car parks are generally a nightmare in any car now because i) cars a generally bigger than they used to be (think new 'mini' next to old mini), ii) changes in civil engineering design and practice tend to happen at a pretty glacial rate (makes the Mustang delivery process look like the world is in 'x32 fast forward'!) so the design specifications they use for swept paths and space size will probably still be based on the same figures they were using in 1975, and iii) developers want to pack in as many spaces as possible so will design to the minimum size requirement.

The main issue for me with multi-storey is the size of the spaces. Even parking and opening the door in my A-Class is difficult and that's meant to be a 'town car'.

it is the parking spaces not going up and down - the up and down is the fun bit.

I actively avoid multi storeys in my Mustang. If the journey involves one I take my battered old Beemer. It's not the tight spaces designed for Austin 7s but those same women in Range Rovers who think that all cars are just cars and will bash the Mustang with their doors.

Treat all drivers, regardless of their car, like the a$$hats they inevitably are. Fortunatley my dirve never requires a multi storey.

So about this size business. Popped into my local dealer yesterday to see their new Ruby Red. Got the car moved next to mine (as it's the only opportunity to get a like for like shot... & it's Ruby Red!).
The S550 is as near as dammit, the same size as my XK8, length & width wise anyway.... the height is rather different but that's only a good thing as far as my knees are concerned ;)

As you can see from the photo however, the Mustang looks massive compared but it's just an optical illusion due to the size of the bonnet (hood) & overall design.

Have been considering getting forward sensors but considering that I can't see 3/4 of the XK's bonnet & I drive / park that fine, I don't think I'll bother.

I do struggle with the Mustang width and it is probably because of the low level and further back driving position. The Mustang is not as wide as our Honda CR-V but the CR-V is higher and shorter and much easier to park.

Ford Mustang is 4784 mm length and 2080 width inc mirrors
Ford Mondeo is 4871 mm length and 2121 width inc mirrors

(According to Parkers)

So the Mondeo is 41mm wider than the Mustang.

Other factors do apply such as the fact that the Mustang mirrors are not its best feature and maybe the actual body of the car is relatively wider and being a coupe the long doors make it much more difficult to squeeze out of in tight parking spaces.

At 6'10" width the Mustang is legally too wide to take on lane 3 of the road works on the M3 (6'6" limit) but so is my Focus which is 6'7" width.
