Hey all - so after much stalking on this forum for awhile, a car matching mine has become available 2 months early. Yay I think. Fingers cross all goes smoothly now.

I was wondering for those of you getting non standard plates, did you manage to get it incorporated into your order to avoid paying plate registration 2x? (i.e once for the new car and again to replace it with your preferred option).

I don't see why this could not be done when the car is first registered and the difference in cost, if any, then paid to the dealer? My car will be registered in NSW if that helps.

Yes, just let your dealer know what plates you want, they can source them, or you can drop them off ( if you source them ) prior to delivery.

Get the dealer to update the Mustang invoice based on the outcome.

I changed from slim line to supplied personal slim lines - the dealer adjusted the price on the invoice and I dropped the plates I bought the week before pickup.

Cool - my contract has premium plates. But the dealer is saying there is only 1 type that they can provide (white with black letters) otherwise I may need to pay the full price of the other premium plate which is BS. I'm talking about the colour here, not the option to personalise letters.

Premium plates are premium plates as long as they are in the same range. and IF there was to be a charge, it should just be the difference not the whole fee again - that's double dipping.

Will keep pushing for the premium plates I want.

I sourced the plates and just paid rego, you can do the same.

Tell the dealer to take the plates off the contract and you'll drop them off.

That way you'll know you're not being ripped off.

Jump on the NSW Version of the VicRoads website and look at options / prices.

I ordered my custom plates and the Motor Reg Dept held onto them until the car was ready for registration. The dealer went and registered the car for me and collected the custom plates and put them on.

That was my point to them but the lady doesnt quite get it and keeps telling me a black plate will be 280.

What is confusing is my contract has 2 items for registration:

Registration (medium) - private $352
Registration - Premium Plates $102

Both numbers do not correspond to anything on RMS.

So in your case are you personally paying for all the registration amd your contract only has dealer charges, stamp duty and ctp for the minor bits?

Im guessing registration +playes will be less than $450 even with premium plates?

Ok after much research ive worked out the $352.

This consist of $64 annual registration + $289 motor vehicle tax based upon a GTs tare weight being below 1504kg. The rest is probably rounding on rms website for the above items.

Hope this helps someone else in the future - for nsw

What i dont get is is the plate registration cost of $102... anyone?

Hi Myke, that $102 is for the annual subscription. That will have to be paid every year!.
