Milltek X-pipe system just fitted. DIY, on the drive by myself no problem.

Advice;

If you're doing it by yourself you'll make life a lot easier if you have a decent trolley jack and various items to support the old exhaust as it comes off (I used a sturdy box and an old bedsheet) to avoid scratching it on the floor or, more seriously, wobbling around and bashing into the underside of the car. Other than that all you need is a decent socket set, preferably with a range of extensions and some deep sockets. You only need 13mm and 15mm sockets.

1. Jack the rear of the car and put blocks under the wheels. I had 200mm high blocks of wood which was fine. The only slightly tight access was from the side to loosen the resonator clamps. 250mm would have probably made it a lot easier.

2. Loosen the clamps on the resonator (15mm socket everything else 13mm).

3. Unbolt the middle exhaust mountings from the car (the brackets hook into the chassis so they don't just fall off on your head!).

4. I found it easiest to then support the exhaust somewhere near the middle mounting with the trolley jack and the unbolt the two rear mounting brackets rather than try to get the exhaust out of the rubber while the bracket was still attached to the car. Make sure you then push the rubber/bracket well up to the silencer so it doesn't catch on the rear valance when you drop the exhaust.

5. You should now be able to unhook the middle brackets (by lifting the exhaust slightly with the jack) and pull the whole thing back slightly to disconnect the resonator. This is where something under the resonator (such as a box) is handy so it only drops a few centimeters - it stops the whole thing crashing onto the ground and/or damaging the underside of the car.

6. You should then be able move the whole exhaust forwards slightly so the silencers and brackets are clear of the rear valance, then slowly lower the jack and pull the whole system out (you'll need to leave yourself enough space behind the car to pull the old system out remember!). It's quite heavy but nothing you shouldn't be able to cope with, especially if it's rolling out on a trolley jack.

7. Fitting the new system is a doddle. Start at the front and work your way back. First connect the adaptors (the Milltek pipe diameter is bigger than the standard system) and the X-pipe. The end of the X-pipe with the slots in is the front end and don't forget to slide the clamps on before you connect the X-pipe to the adaptors. I left all the clamps loose until the whole new system was on.

8. Fit the LH and RH middle sections of the exhaust. It's easiest to attach the mounting brackets to the exhaust before you connect the middle sections to the car. Once the middle sections are in place you can hook the middle mounting brackets into the chassis to give it some support. Then insert the bolts into the mounting brackets but don't tighten them completely.

9. Loosely fit the rear mounting brackets to the car. I used just the vertical top bolt so there was plenty of wriggle room.

10. Fit the silencer to the middle section of the exhaust, slide it well on and you should then have enough room to wiggle the mounting into the rear bracket. Then insert the second second bolt into the bracket and tighten them both up. Repeat for the other silencer.

11. Fit the tips onto the silencers as it makes it easier to align the tips centrally in the holes in the valance.

12. Support the front of the system where it joins the cats with the trolley jack to ensure there is no sag in the joint but don't tighten the clamps yet.

13. I started at the back and jiggled things around until the tips were central in the valance holes then tightened the silencer to middle section clamps. It should then be an easy job to tighten the remaining clamps and the system should be on and straight, with no sag.

14. Twist the tips so you get the logo at top dead centre and tighten the clamps.

Bob's your uncle, fanny's your aunt - job done. 2.5hrs.

15. Go inside, wash hands and get changed out of work clothes.

16. Go back out to car. Get in and leave door open. Depress clutch, and press start ........ :eyebulge: :hail: Oh yes!

Cold start is, to put it mildly, a little attention grabbing - but it doesn't take long to settle down. Sounds bloody AWESOME!!!

Thanks Steve, great job ..... and I had a thoroughly good time putting it on. Hadn't spannered a car for years until today, really enjoyed it

Milltek catback fitted: 2 people make it easier. ....excellent fitting , just some fiddling to ensure the tips the are centrally located wrt rear diffuser.
Very pleased with the sound; relatively quiet on the inside , no drone at any RPM ...but sounds muscular V8 on the outside . Sound is more 'burbly 'than raspy ...very pleased ...and highly recommended .

Great job, looks good ...... and is that an SGS aluminium race jack I see there too? :)

Nice youtube clip, but I'm sure you'll agree it just doesn't do the sound justice does it? Cold start is awesome and once you get it warm and give it a bit of throttle it sounds fantastic - exactly how I hoped it would .

The neighbours might not be so pleased in the morning though ..... off to the Shelsley Walsh Breakfast Club at 7:15! :headbang:

You might want to pull those tips out from the bumper a bit, it's been known to melt the reflector above it, worth keeping an eye on.

Many thanks to Matt for allowing me to pop round his house, and asking him a zillion and one questions this morning.....and the icing on the cake, (which I wasn't expecting), letting me drive his car - top bloke

That was my first drive of a Mustang, and I really liked it, no problems with the clutch and gearbox as some people have mentioned, and got on fine with the hill assist.

The main reason for the visit though, was to listen to the exhaust, and fortunately I managed to hear it from a cold start as well......and I loved it, no drone, enough noise to let people know you are coming, but quiet at cruising speeds and I'm convinced enough to buy one when my car eventually arrives.

I will be in touch with you SteveP later in the year.

Thanks again Matt, I loved your other toy as well, and I may see you in St James one day ;)

Exhaust is on and I can only add to the praise. This has got to be the single best bang for the buck update you can get for this car :hail:
