I just saw you ordered DIB that's a beautiful color. We are looking at an Edge for my wife and that's the only color she likes.
I absolutely love DIB. But I'm going to be extremely cautious with this car, just because it's my first real car doesn't mean I haven't been driving a beater the last 2 years! Not that it can compare to this beast in anyway. What I'm saying is, I can handle it!:headbang:

I've hit 3rd instead of 5th a few times when going like 50-55. Definitely not something that's recommended. To me, the 4>5 shift is tricky and I still make sure to pay attention and visually ensure I shifted into 5th and not 3rd. Maybe it's because I have long legs and sit kinda far back, so the 5th gear is more of a reach than the others. 5>6 is easy, just keep pressure towards the right side as you slide it backwards.

Funny. When I was driving it home, I stalled it in the right turn lane at a stop light. I was about 6 cars back in a lane that only held about 8 cars. And it was rush hour, so there were like 15 cars behind me that were turning but were still in the regular straight lane. So cars in front of me creep up, I try to and stall. I restart it, try to creep, stall. Finally crept up one car length... then cars in front of me creep up more (they're turning right on red), so I decide to wait because I'm thinking I'll just creep when there's only one car left ahead of me. Finally the time comes, I go to creep and stall. Start getting nervous, then the honking starts behind me. So it makes me even more nervous, and I keep stalling. Light is now green... then red again. People are going around me, and honking, and pointing to the sky with their middle fingers for some reason (I didn't see anything up there...). Did all of that through another green > red light rotation. Finally got past the stupid intersection and I was on a two lane highway for the next 20 miles.

My girlfriend sat next to me the whole time in total silence (and terror). She later admitted that she was starting to get anxiety because I was so nervous.

Point is... it's gonna happen. Just make the best of it and ignore all of the assholes around you :)
Haha I'll do my best, I'll probably feel your pain too just like most people have and still will. Thanks :D

I owe everyone a big apology here. Seems you can let the clutch out slowly and not give the car gas and have it creep forward on the 2015 GT. How I stalled it before I have no idea.

i taught a few people to drive a stick on a honda crx si. flat road or parking lot > let the clutch out extremely slowly, feel it engage, no throttle at all, just keep letting it out slowly until the car idled along in 1st gear. after that, with that little honda's awesome gearbox and smooth throttle pedal, it was easy.

on my '13 gt i was never able to roll out like that without stalling, 3.55 gears. (maybe too impatient)

one thing you have to keep in mind as a first timer, remember to quickly push the clutch pedal to the floor under pretty much any circumstance if things seem wanky. like if you start lurching forward/back or whatever mash the clutch in and start over. you'll pick it up pretty quickly.

also remember you're not going for the worlds quickest shifts. clutch all the way in > shift > let the clutch out. smooth and steady. even when reving the engine up to 4k or 5k rpm. well, too slowly and your rpm's will drop. but the point is, no need to go BAM. just in > shift > out.

That's not worthy of an apology. When you get to the friction zone (where the clutch engages) it will turn against the static inertia of the drivetrain and wheels/tires. This will correspond with a drop in engine RPM as the flywheel speed is inclined to match road speed.

If the clutch is released slowly, the road speed will creep up and the engine speed will drop a bit but the car will move forward. If the clutch is released quickly with insufficient fuel, the flywheel will quickly drop to the road speed of zero and the engine will stall.

The same is true of any manual-transmission vehicle I've ever driven, from tiny motorcycles to giant trucks. Gearing, power, and weight all have their roles to play but ultimately it's about the engine mating flywheel to driveshaft speed.

If your own personal 'foot timing' is off a bit that day, or something distracts you at precisely the wrong time, or you hop immediately between vehicles with vastly different-feeling clutches and you're in a hurry . . . it can and will happen.

No apology necessary.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with most.

Just drive it home from the dealership. You'll be fine. You may stall a few times, but who cares?

You don't even have to drive home right away. Stop at a parking lot and practice.

You should learn starting from 1 but 2 is where I now start. Plenty of tq in 2.
Is it easier to start in 2nd? I have not tried that, didn't know if that was damaging to the clutch or transmission.

Starting in 2nd gear may save a shift but even though the 5.0 is a fairly torquey engine, this still requires slipping the clutch a bit more.

I've tried starting in second, but I find that my preferred shift pattern these days is 1-3-5-6. I generally engage 2/4 only when I'm downshifting to match road speed or I'm having a bit of fun.

weird, I skip the opposite gears haha. 2-4-6 for me. (or 2-3-4-6 if I want to go a little quicker)
