Creating this post just for my own personal records as somewhere to keep track of my journey from want, to order, to receipt.

Original idea to get a Mustang was in December of 2021. Not sure what triggered this specific time to look at buying but it's something I've wanted for years and years, decades even. I started looking around for a MY21.5 Twister Orange Ecoboost HP Fastback Auto. Turns out it wasn't a good time to be looking due to no new orders for MY21.5 etc which I had no idea about at the time. I tried a broker first up and he was unable to help. I then contacted a dealer in February and was given a price. A little bit of back and forth occurred via email with the dealer but ultimately, after discussion with the wife, this wasn't really something we could do. Fast forward to June 2022 and the bug hit me again. Things got a little more serious with the dealer and after convincing the wife somehow, we placed an order for a Rapid Red Ecoboost HP Fastback Auto. Really wanted Twister Orange but the colour was discontinued for the MY22.25.

Order placed end of June, dealer told me I'd be looking at Feb-March delivery. Confirmation email came from Ford came about 2 weeks later to say they received my order.
I think I lasted until the end of July before I started asking the dealer for information at which point I found out segmentation was set for September 6th with an ETA of December 3rd. Much earlier than I had anticipated. At this point no VIN had been assigned.

So September 6th came and I asked for an update on my order to find out that although a VIN had now been assigned, segmentation was pushed to October 3rd and ETA pushed to December 24th.
Once again, as time got close to October 3rd, the segmentation had been pushed again to October 17th with ETA of December 29th. The week prior to October 17th, segmentation changed to October 20th but turns out it was built October 17th and got gate release on October 18th. ETA kept pushing and went from January 7th to eventually sit on January 14th.

The car arrived at Baltimore for shipping to Australia on October 25th where it would sit waiting for a boat.
It was loaded onto a ship called Thermopylae on November 25th, with an ETA in my home port of Brisbane on December 29th. ETA remained at January 14th. Several delays throughout the voyage kept pushing the ETA into Brisbane. It changed to January 4th, then the 7th and eventually arrived January 12th.
The ship docked for 17 hours and was sent back out to sea. It docked again on January 14th for 17 hours and left port again. It skipped it's next scheduled port of Port Kembla and headed straight to Melbourne. At this point I'm asking my dealer for details almost daily as something didn't seem right, he just kept telling me it should be at the dealer soon but there is nothing in their system about where the car is. Finally within about 3 days of expected delivery, the dealer informed me that there was a quarantine issue with the ship and it had been sent straight to Melbourne to be handled by the Department of Agriculture. No ETA could be given on when I would actually see my car.

I was desperately searching for any information but could not find a thing as to why it was quarantined or the process that would be followed. I did find some generic type articles that, although interesting, didn't really help to answer my questions for when I might get my car. Dealer also had no information. All I knew was that Thermopylae was sitting in Port Phillip Bay just waiting. It arrived in Melbourne on January 17th and stayed anchored in the bay until January 31st.

It docked at the MIRRAT port and was in port for 2 days until being moved to another dock within Melbourne on February 2nd. It would sit here in Layup for 9 days.
February 11th, Thermopylae returned to MIRRAT and that brings us to now. The ship is still docked and I am still awaiting news from Ford.

Just called my dealer and told ETA was April 8th.

I spoke to the delivery coordinator and she doesn't think that sounds right as she had previously seen an early March ETA. She is checking with the dealer principle and their stock controller and will contact me by tomorrow arvo at the latest.

The drama continues. :crying:

Disappointing news confirmed. They said there are still vehicles held up in the quarantine process and apparently mine is one of them. So April 8th is my current ETA according to the dealer.

More updates to follow......

Time for an update.

Was surprised to find out my car was aboard a ship waiting off the coast at my local port in late February which gave me a new ETA of March 18th.

The ship eventually docked March 5th and as far as I know was offloaded that day. Based on tracker information it appeared to clear customs etc on March 7th.

Fast forward to March 15th and I reached out to my dealer expecting delivery to be very soon. He was able to provide a final invoice (which matched the original price quoted in June) but still had no ETA. I was just happy that there were no price increases and the original trade value of my car from December was still being honored.

Monday March 10th I paid the final balance of the cash part of the settlement and I was told I would get a phone call from their pre-delivery team. Finally got that email Thursday March 23rd which was basically just selling me the dealer add-ons etc. I called later that day and spoke to the rep and said I was going to sort out tint etc post delivery. After further chat she matched the price for my original plans and said she'd get the sales guy to call me to update me on the ETA for the car.

Later that afternoon I get a call and the first thing my sales guy said was "Have you broken any mirrors or run over any black cats lately" My heart sunk and I just let out a big sigh and ask what has happened now. He let me know that some time during transit the car has suffered damage to the front end. He said he looked like a white vehicle of some kind has backed into the front of it and damaged the front bumper and grill. So now it's been sent off to the body shop to have the front bumper and front grill replaced. Body shop can't even look at the car until late next week.

Going to visit the dealer today March 24th to add some other options. Dashcam, Floor Mats etc and see if I can get some discounts.

A positive update. Delivery scheduled for 4pm Friday March 31st.
The dealer has been nothing short of amazing considering the challenges we have faced. Dash cams at cost plus free install. Tint at fleet price. (Which kinda just matches retail) I’ve saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the extra stuff added to the car. And the service and feeling of being looked after has been amazing.

3 days, 11 hours, 8 minutes and 22 seconds.

Crappy to hear, I'm surprised you haven't been offered any compensation, I know a few local dealers have had some that have had slight lot damage and were willing to drop a few thousand off the price and keep the incident off record. May be that because the car is imported its not really offered. Glad they sorted it all out for you car looks fantastic!

Good Luck! Love that rapid red...and the shirt :) I had a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra, 429SCJ back in the 80's. I believe they call them XB Falcon GTs down under!

Bit of an update now the car has 7,000km on it.

Delivery experience was rushed. The car wasn't ready at 4pm that was scheduled. After waiting for almost an hour the car was backed into the showroom and covered up. I had my back turned. Seeing it for the first time brought a tear to the eye. From there the delivery was rushed and I had to leave before being shown all the features.

After delivery I had to get the tint redone on the rear windscreen as it wasn't the darker 20% I wanted. The adaptive cruise control also failed which was from the radar not being aligned properly when they replaced the front bar. When I got the car back the alignment with the bonnet was now off and the front bar sits a bit higher than the bonnet instead of being flush.

A few weeks later some white spots appeared on the front bar under the headlight. I thought I must have copped some over spray from some line markings or something but I couldn't get rid of it. This looked like solvent pop so back it went to get fixed but the painter did a lazy job. Didn't bother to remove the front bar and repainted it. The paint job itself was fine but the white spots right in the cavity under the headlight remained.

During this time I noticed I couldn't get the dashcam to enter "park mode" and the footage was glitchy and jumpy. They ordered a new camera and replaced it, however they replaced the rear unit as well which destroyed the tint so they had to keep it longer to replace the rear windscreen tint. (3rd time it had been tinted)

They organised a paint specialist to come and check the paint and at the same time I told them that "park mode" still wouldn't initiate on the dashcam. Paint appears to be fixed now, although I haven't been able to wash it to get a proper inspection yet, and the dashcam issue was also fixed.

I swear now that this car is cursed. On the weekend when moving the drivers seat forward for a rear passenger, I noticed stitching coming undone on one of the seams near the top of the seat on the side. It is a significant "tear" in the stitching and can see the foam underneath. I emailed off today about this and expect a response tomorrow.

The service has been great but the product quality of the product has been disappointing. It certainly takes some of the joy of ownership away. I've started considering selling and buying a Ranger instead.

That's my story so far.
