Intercooler paint

I just received my ESS kit and the intercooler came as black (not sure if there was an option for anything else). However, I would prefer the natural aluminum color.

Is there any downside to spray painting the intercooler over the black paint? I guess it may be slightly less efficient, but probably not a big deal.

Or is it best to have the black paint stripped and not have several coatings?
