They all say convoy because that's how they leave the plant. Not 1 mustang says rail

Misinformation.

It seems that unless you live near the plant, all cars leave on a train. Then they are convoyed to your dealership. My window sticker shows convoy. But it was sent by train to Atlanta and is on its way here by truck.

No one has been able to show the ability to track a truck. And my dealer is getting tired of me asking haha.

That's what I thought someone had posted before. Did you track the rail part?

Ford hid the source code before I could get it. Another M6G member got info from his dealer. We had the same build and ship date so we just concluded that ours left on the same train at the same time since we're both in the southeast. With some logical reasoning I was able to put two and two together to get a 15. :)

This is my assumption, based solely on observation and not at all on inside information. I am not a scientist haha.

It seems like the window stickers that say rail are for dealerships in or near larger cities where Ford would be able to send the car to by rail only. Whether the dealership sends a truck to get them or Ford sends them is unknown to me. But, those of us with Convoy on our stickers are nowhere near a rail yard that Ford would use to ship. Sure, I work across the street from train tracks and a delivery to my brewery would have been epic, but I don't see Ford going for that haha.

Short version: Rail is for vehicles going to within a certain distance of known receiving yards. Anything that falls outside that radius is marked as Convoy.

I imagine this all boils down to money and who's paying for what. What's your shipping charge on your invoice? I wonder if you rail guys are cheaper. They always pass the buck...

$825 Destination and Delivery, Most cars are shipped via rail if they are going a decent distance... if you live 200 miles from the plant near your dealer, it would be stupid to put it on a train obviously, but I've been told most get put onto a train from the plant, then the goto the nearest depot in your city, or the nearest city, then a truck picks em up and delivers them.

Kinda why they have a HUGE railroad system at Flat Rock, right ;)

The note on the sticker is only how it leaves the plant. Rail means it's loaded up at the plant onto rail car. Convoy means it leaves the plant lot by truck, usually to another depot to be loaded on train (contrary to popular belief, not all rail company systems are easily connected). Beyond that, it gets a little harder. Most end up being unloaded at a facility that handles cars (all brands) at switch yards and shipped via truck to dealers. Often that's why you see several makes on a truck.

Obviously, dealers close to the plant may be delivered via truck.

My retail order updated to "in transit" this morning (completed build Wednesday) and ETA from the dealer is as soon as next Monday via convoy! Live less than 200 miles from the plant.

Got notified my 50th Kona Blue went to "transit" today. Sounds like a two week wait to AZ based on what I'm reading here.
