I have a 2017 GT PP in black and I am seeking the best way to keep the paint in good condition for the long term and shiny. The car came with Perma Plate on it and I was given a Perma Plate wash and revitalization ( their wax ). The car looked amazing brand new with a very slick paint to the touch.

My question is this, do I continue with the Perma Plate application or swap to something from Adams or Chemical Guys for a wash and wax?

I'd probably take it to a professional detailer the first time and have them strip that coating then clay bar/polish/wax. I don't really trust "dealer applied" stuff as it was probably done cheaply by a lot attendant making 8 bucks an hour.

Get it done right, then you have a good base to work with. Adams has good stuff, but I use Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax. The stuff is great.

I'm on a Facebook forum, Detailing for Dummies. Lots of good stuff on there from guys who do it for a living. Other than the soaps, Chemical Guys aren't highly regarded from what I've seen.

Paint will feel super slick after a good wax job, even more so if the car is clayed before hand. With a black car, the key is minimizing swirl marks because they show up much more on dark cars.

I recommend using the two bucket wash method and not running the car through an automated wash ever. If you bring the car to the dealer for anything, specifically request that they do not wash it. Invest in quality microfiber for drying and product application.

I personally use P21s wax as it is very easy on/off and lasts quite a while. When prepping for winter I clay and then seal with CG Jestseal 109. Adams makes great stuff and some of the CG stuff is good, but a lot is just marketing hype.

If it's from the dealer you'd just as well take a piss on the car as it's being driven out of the lot for the good it will do you. It's literally an OTC sealant and probably the cheapest one they can find at that. No different than getting a deli sandwich where they glop on mayo from a 5-gallon pail and call it "gourmet."

Scoggy said it best, dark cars show swirls/scratches like nobody's business. Strip wash and do your own work. Try some products and see what you like. But definitely strip and clay bar (use actual clay the first time IMO, then after you can use a mitt which is much easier and probably good enough if you keep on top of it). Then wash it again to get any remnants off.

I use mostly Adam's. Sealant is good, H20 Guard & Gloss on top of that (their best product IMO), and then a wax. Not a fan of Adam's waxes. SR56 mentioned Meguiar's which I liked. Just make sure you prep or tape off your trim.

My worry for any dealer installed coating would be the swirls inflicted before the Perma Plate is applied. Paint correction is where most of your money goes when you have a professional detailer do those things.

Ya the dealers just slap that stuff on the cars. They don't have the time or know-how to clay or polish the car before hand. Honestly, if your car sits outside, that stuff will be gone within a month or 2 max. If you use Dawn or CG Citrus & Gloss Wash in a higher concentration it will take it right off. Then clay, polish, seal, and wax. You'll be good to go.

I washed my car today and noticed the beading effect was completely gone almost. I just ordered AMMOs Rehydrate tonight and will be getting some Chemical Guys and Adams to try as well!

I personally use Zaino stuff and it makes my car glass. It takes a while the first time going through it but it lasts a long time and each time after the first goes easier and easier.

The part that takes the longest is the claybar by far but you do that maybe twice a year at most. Just purchase some nice microfiber cloths and be ready to use two buckets per wash. I also go crazy with how i wash the cloths as well

Just so you know op, Hydrate is a drying aid. I think Larry has said it has some micro amount of Skin in it, but it doesn't really add any protection.

I understand that. It looks like a good additional step to dry the far with after applying it to a microfiber towel. I just ordered a CG foam gun and some of their soap to try. After that, Ill probably end up ordering AMMOs full treatment kit and giving his stuff a try. Or maybe even a combination of things.

Sounds good! My only issue with it so far is that my spray nozzle broke. Otherwise love it. I would like to try his Skin/Reflex but it's a bit pricey, especially when I have 3/4 bottle of Blackfire sealant left.

IMO I do like CG soaps but the foam gun is not worth it. I have the gun and the cannon (for pressure washer). The Snow Foam and the foam cannon is where its at. You'll see the foam gun (for the hose) aint worth the time.

Oops, I did order the foam cannon and not gun. The gun looked to do about the same as the $12 one I purchased from Harbor Freight.
