I started to notice a weird noise from the transmission/gearbox when starting to take off from a stand still. More noticeable at low speed in second gear.

I tried searching on the forum if any of our fellow members are experiencing it too and looks like it is common with our folks in UK.

Just worried since it is a 5 day old car and I don't think I should be hearing the gearbox whine.

Should I take it to a dealer?

Ford went with the M82 made in China transmission in the 2011 model Mustang,it has been a piece of shit transmission from day ONE, and has to many problems to mention.if you take it to Ford they will tell you it"s NORMAL and the next day it won"t shift at all or it will be a pile of ground up metal, then Ford will tell you it"s on BACK ORDER for the next 3 months, read the S197 Forums on the M82,just be glad you got 5 days out of it.

I've had my GT well over a year and have always had the same. I actually like the sound cause it reminds me of some old muscle car trans. It only seems to happen lugging around in 2nd or 3rd gear at low rpm.

I don't have any drivetrain noise, but those that due should
consider a one piece drive shaft

Yeah, I'll just rustle up $900 to replace a part that shouldn't be a POS in the first place. Got it.

I've driven 700 miles on my 2016 GT PP and I am still getting used to the tranny/shifter noise. If it's not audible with the radio on or the windows down, I wouldn't worry too much about it and probably just a characteristic of the car. It may improve as tranny and engine start breaking in.

A good 6 speed transmission Not made in China like the M82, will not run you $900.00,it will run $3,500.00,but then you would have a nice transmission, and not an M82 POS.

hmmm, apparently the transmission used in Mustang is pretty common in other cars as well. My co-worker's GTO also makes the same noise. It can be heard through the gear knob on both cars

Wouldn't worry about it. Mine makes a whine and some chattering. Its more pronounced after putting a shift lever in it. My 2010 Mustang was the same.

I thought I broke my transmission at the track when I first went. I had a "scratching" kind of noise in first gear that i never noticed before, but I remembered I had never turned the radio off since I bought the car. I attribute this to be "normal".

I have the same whine in my 17 GT PP. I like it, reminds me of a race transmissions. If you listen to any racecar onboard audio, you can hear the gear whine. It has something to do with the way the gears are cut and being straight cut if I remember correctly.

My new 16' also has this "issue". It sounds kinda like a static hiss and gear whine, mostly in 1st and 2nd gear at low rpm. Only noticeable with the windows up, no radio or AC. Not really worth it take it to the dealership and risk them causing further issues taking things apart.

Yes, "hiss" is a better term for what I experience more in first gear at low RPM.
