So I left the Airbag Module in (for now) however I did remove the curtain airbags and most other items from the car. I was able to start the car except when I removed the Stereo. Not sure why now it says "no key detected". I don't know how to rewire a car and wondering if I need to pull fuses or disable other systems? fatbillybob I'm happy to update you on everything once I finish. Right now I'm definitely running into issues along the way, the car has a Ton of electronics. and ddozier, yes I have a power to weight requirement and I'm trying to find a couple hundred lbs of weight savings to get my 4cyl mustang to have the required 10lbs per hp.
The "No key Detected" is from the module in the center console being removed or disconnected. There is a small black module that is screwed to the bottom of the center console by the media connectors in the center console, it needs to be in the car somewhere and connected to the main harness in the console. I am guessing when you removed the stereo and the wires leading to the media port in the center console you disconnected the FOB detection module.

The interior is surprisingly light, I had hoped the interior removal would lead to a higher weight loss but it did not. The seats are the high weight items. I have removed almost all of the interior but left the center console in place. It just does not weigh that much and complicates the build if it is removed completely as you have to fabricate a few items to have any sort of a finished look. When I started I was planning to remove everything and get the car as light as possible but quickly realized that the PW ratio for my class meant I could not really remove much weight without having to restrict the engine, its all a compromise.

I just tried to put the stereo back in. Doesn't seem to be the issue. Not sure if something I removed has affected the Key detection module or not. If anyone has any advice at all it's appreciated.

OK, so if anyone is gutting their S550 here is a small piece of knowledge. If you remove the center console/armrest/cupholders the car will NOT START! There is a small module under the cup holder that has to be plugged in to be recognized and start the car. FYI

So, good news I started my car and project is back on track.

We need a sticky thread on gutting and electronics and move some of these posts to it. Can a moderator do that?

How about the thread title: "Racecar build and OEM electronics"

That would be great! I still have a lot of work to do on my car and would love a thread dedicated to what I see as one of the biggest challenges. These modern cars are great but present quite the challenge. Every time you pull something out you find a sensor or a wire.
