So I am new to the Louisiana are and I noticed something at one of the gas stations. They advertise their premium fuel as ethanol free. Is this a good thing? I also didn't realize most stations use a certain amount of it in the 93. I thought ethanol made the car run at a higher octane. Like if you get the e-30 tune and run the 85 you get more HP. Would love to know more about this, if anyone can explain thanks.

I asked this awhile back and from my understanding the power is the same just better MPG on 93 octane without the ethanol.

So why do they do this? Cheaper for them?

I believe it boosts the octane rating.

Ethanol is added to gasoline because it burns cleaner and helps emmisions. Unless otherwise noted the maximum is 10%. Over 10% is generally considered flex fuel. Some people (idiots that think ethanol eats everything it touches) hate the ethanol mixed in. You may see a slight bump in mileage with non blended fuel since 100% gasoline has more energy than ethanol.

Ethanol blended fuels these days are not as bad as they once were due to the inhibitors they use. How ever when ethanol sits for a long period of time it becomes commingled with water and creates an environment for a type of bacteria to grow and creates an acid that will eat through most things. Many people will never experience this in their cars that are driven often due to the fact that the reaction won't have time to take place. In a nut shell it won't hurt 99% of everyone's vehicle. Also "pure" gasoline is very corrosive but also has additives and inhibitors blended in to cut down on the corrosion it could cause. But not all stations properly maintain their tanks and could lead to dilution of the gasoline and/or blended fuels and their additives. Just make sure to go to well kept stations with newer looking pumps and a general clean non-oldtimey appearance. And be sure to look for the states seal on the pumps or gas station window to show the pumps and the station it's self is annually inspected and certified.

Thank you, answered all my questions
Where in Louisiana are you located? If you are near the NOLA or Baton Rouge area you should check out our threads there and introduce yourself. A few of us get together pretty regularly and cruise around tearing up some pavement.
