Hi, I want to go for forgestar cf5v's, but having trouble to decide which way to go: 19x10 +40 285/35 squared or 19x10 +40 285/35 rear and 19x9 +35 255/40 front staggered.
What are the downsides on any of the choices? I am leaning towards the squared set up, but am afraid the wide tire in front will give me trouble.

Squared: more neutral (front to back) handling. Ability to rotate tires.
Staggered: looks cool and potential for more rubber out back for straight line grip.

In your case, you're not going any wider than the 285 tire in either scenario. Personally, I'd do 275 on each in a square setup.

Also, since you're in Western Europe (Belgium, I see) and your vehicle inspections are far more rigorous (I know this because the German authorities gave me a ticket for worn tires on a long-term rental car when I was an expat there... that I didn't even own).

Thanks. Yes the inspections are a matter to consider, so I will need to stay as close as possible to stock regarding hight of the the weel/tire combo. Therefore 275/35's are out, too small and 275/40's too large(hight).

Well, 285 is fine, too if that works. But over there, I'd do square. Too damn expensive not to be able to rotate tires there.
