Basically anything you buy right now has corporate or manufacture competition pricing right now.
Coming from the electronics/computer/major appliance industry I can tell you this happens all the time. Take major appliances. The business is run on rebates, either to the retailer and/or the consumer. The big box stores already know what the pricing will be for Black Friday. And they all get the same amount. That why there is usually only a few pennies difference between Lowe's, Best Buy, & Home Depot. The manufacturers actually control the pricing. Don't go along with it and you can see your advertising dollars and you allocations go bye, bye. Same goes with TV's, laptops, etc. Honestly it's all smoke and mirrors. Has been for decades.

As part of the price, yes.

But speaking specifically about vehicles, dealerships ARE the price competition in the market. They even hold the manufacturer's feet to the fire to keep prices down.

Remove dealerships, and vehicle prices sky-rocket.

Like.....wait for it.......Tesla. And FYI, Teslas have x3 the profit margin of Fords. With the average price of a Tesla, Musk is killing it in profit dollars.

We do not know what the market will be like when (not if) they all move to direct pricing. You may be right but its speculating.
