Here is the Passat I drove for 5 years. Going to Tijuana back and forth, the Sentri lane (trusted traveler lane) had to comply with CA law. I used scotch tape and took the plate off at the first stop. Never had a problem and I even remeber that many times at red lights the patrol cars were in front of me. My future Mustang will be a daily driver as well.

Not a single car I've owned since 2008 has had a front license plate... I've gotten several warnings but only one ticket. That ticket was dismessed when I installed the front plate with some light duty double sided tape. As soon as I left from paying the fine, took the front plate right back off!

If the plug is in a good place, a tow hook mounting bracket. This one looks promising: http://www.usmillworks.com/

The pic below was with a http://rhoplate.com/ , but with its single nut attachment point the bracket could rotate too easily. Had to crank down on the allen bolt so hard that it tore the aluminum.

Do any of you guys know if the dealer mounts the bracket as soon as the car gets to them or after they sell it ?

All my cars plates have always placed in my front windshield over vin#.
Due to auto thieves reordering keys for vehicles. I've never been warned or ticket.

So, um, serious question: Wouldn't the cops see that as an attempt to avoid automatic ticketing systems? Like, when they have cameras on corners and if you run a red light the camera photographs it and then the computer sends you a ticket in the mail along with a photograph of your car going through the intersection? That's all based on photos of your license plate; how do the cops not care that you're trying to circumvent that?

Red light cameras only read the back plate so its not an issue. Don't know how the speed cameras in schools zones work, I'll let you know when I get my first ticket

Ugh, speeding cameras are ridiculous... Nassau County has those in all their school zones now, right? Remind me to never drive surface streets there if I can avoid it...

All the red light and speed cameras in MD and DC use the rear plate. Ask me how I know...
