So, I've had my 15gt pp for just over a year now, so I thought I'd write a quick summary of my thoughts so far. Overall, it's been awesome. I'm using this as my daily driver, so it has been very nice having a fun car to do my daily 20-25 minute commute. I even had the chance to rent a new 18gt auto for a couple 3-4 hour business trips, so that was nice as a comparison. I love my manual, and am very glad I made that decision. Back in high school, I had an auto on my '67, and I always wished it had been a stick. I don't mind using my stick shift for my commute at all. Since most of my driving is fairly mundane, having that stick allows me to let the car do as much talking with the engine sound as it does with its looks. For me, that a huge part of the appeal. Anyway, about the only thing to go wrong was my a/c went out this summer. Thankfully I had a certified pre-owned warranty that kicked in. Cost me $100 for the deductable. It wasn't too bad. About a 4 day deal. The dealer hadn't heard about any of them going bad, which as very different from what I was reading on the boards. Thankfully I did some digging as I didn't even know the car had a certified pre-owned warranty. The first dealer I called tried to send me on a goose chase of tracking down the original owner who apparently bought a special extended warranty. Too bad for him I did my own research and found the other one. He had to know about it too, so shame on him. So, in the Boise, Idaho area, don't trust Corwin Ford. Enough about that.
To get me through the winters, I had to get different tires since the summer only p zero's aren't cut out for that. I bought new rims and put on some Blizzak's. They worked fine. It was nice getting my summer tires back on, but they did the job. I think I had to use my other car twice, and this year, I'm just going to go in to work at noon if it snows. The traffic with all the drivers who don't know how to drive in the snow is ridiculous anyway, and I have the luxury of being flexible. I thought it was funny last weekend, as I was finishing up with getting my oil changed they guy says, "I guess we'll see you next summer". I stopped and said "what?" and he said, "Well, you don't drive that in the winter do you?". Of course! Hey, I love this car, but come on. It's not a Ferrari or anything. And life is short. This thing is too fun to only drive half the year. Thankfully the climate here is just about right for driving it year round.
The only thing that was a slight disappointment is the sound system. This car has the best you can get from the factory, but it's not amazing. First I tried to play my iphone music through blue tooth. How convenient is that?! Well, that sucked. I had to crank the volume almost all the way to get any real sound out of it. I found that using a usb cord helped quite a bit, but it's still way quieter and less full than the radio is. That makes for some scary moments if I unplug my phone and the radio kicks on which is much louder. I've done it a few times and it scares the crap out of me. Seems like there has to be some stupid setting that isn't allowing the volume to be as high coming through the cord, but oh well. I'm not ready to upgrade the stereo just to deal with this issue. I guess there is one other item that isn't ideal. I guess I've learned that Brembo's just squeal. After I had it a couple months the brakes started squeeling, and it took me a while to figure out (on these boards), that I was driving like a Grandpa. I've since adjusted a bit and it helps, but they still squeak fairly often until I can really get on the brakes good. I've put about 11k miles on the thing and am still loving it. So glad I found this sweet little car. Thanks for reading.
