Explain the purpose of diff bushings

BmacIL and Norm explained the diff action very well.

I think when the diff moves in the OE bushings, it "winds-up", and then stops abruptly when the bushings are collapsed, which I think leads to wheel hop.

You've already done a lot to your car to control wheel hop - is it still bad?

Diff bushings are the last thing I would do to the suspension if I did it all over again. You'll lose a few bits of power to the wheels and adding them tightens up power delivery. But... last thing I would do.
Why would you lose power?

I thought you'll "gain" power (by that I mean, it eliminates an inefficiency causing factor) to the wheels, therefore making better use of the existing power.
