Maybe yours was one selected for extended road testing at the factory and a dealer employee knows how to "adjust" the mileage certificate after his own extended testing. Hope not. Just throwing things out to check on if they don't come up with a good explanation.

I once thought about making a custom order. What's the protection against the car getting sold to the highest bidder and having to start over? Or mysteriously getting 50 miles on it ?

Back in 85', I had a buddy that I used to sell cars with that worked in the Fleet Dept. of a Chevy dealer. I special ordered a Blue IROC Z-28 exactly the way I wanted it, and was getting for $500 over invoice.

I happened to be at the dealership BS'ing with him when the delivery truck showed up with my ordered car on it. A customer on the lot saw it come in and said he wanted it. They sold the car to him because he offered more than what my buddy was selling it to me for. My buddy walked in to his office and said to me "you didn't really want that car, did you?". I told him it was no big deal (actually I was pissed off) cause I knew there was nothing he could do about it. Turned out to be their loss cause I ended up buying a car from a different manufacturer.

can a custom order be made with a contract ? They usually require a deposit, and I assume there is some obligation on their side.

Actually this does remind me, I did make a custom order many years ago. F150 V8 4x4 manual transmission. I had to abandon the order and buy off the lot because my car was breaking down and I didn't want to put any money into it. I can''t recall if I made a deposit, or got it back.

So I ordered the car back in October, delivery date was set for 1/2 but it got delayed a little bit, no worries. Anyways called ford yesterday and they told me the car was delivered to my dealership January 8th at around 11 pm. That's the good news, a few hours ago I went to my dealership to just check out the car on the lot, problem is there's no car. Talked to my salesman he went to the manager and said the car was logged into their system that it was indeed delivered at their dealership at 11 pm on January 8th. Since my dealership is under construction, they have 2 other lots they use to store cars. He told me to check both lots and call him if it's there, went to both lots, bunch of mustangs but not mine. Called him and he said they're not entirely sure what happened to the car, but they'll find. Great, my car is lost somewhere! :frusty:

I cannot tell if that car has the PP, so it may not be his. On the other hand, it has excellent stopping power, and drifts around corners with ease, so maybe it is ! :lol:
