DSS Half Shaft Install Question

In the middle of installing a set of DSS half shafts and something doesn’t look right to me.

Pulled the factory drivers side shaft and lined it up with the dss shafts. The longer shaft (drivers side) DSS shaft is actually a smaller diameter than the passenger side (short side) DSS shaft. I would think the drivers side would be the larger diameter shaft.

Any ideas? Is this just a case of the stubs were assembled backwards and I can just swap them back?

Middle shaft is factory drivers side. Top and bottom are DSS.

The difference is that the factory shaft is hollow (foam filled).
I’ve broken every single CV in those axles at least once but the bars themselves are fine.
Don’t sweat it.
However, if the CV’s start to produce clicking sounds (or just plain break), don’t even bother with a warranty claim. Do yourself a favour and go directly to GKN/Loebro CV’s.
Also, I’d take the time to pull the M10 bolts out of the CV’s and make 100% sure they’re loctited and then torqued to spec.
From experience, that’s not always the case.

Thanks for the tip on the cv. I’ll keep that in mind if I have an issue there.

Contacted DSS first obviously, and their tech support guy just asked me to email pics, which I did. But I’m sure I won’t get a reply til Monday or later. I’d like just to get this buttoned up this weekend if possible.

No worries.
I’m not sure if the bars themselves are the same length left and right but if they are, you could just swap the splined sections at the axle end from one to the other.
Seems strange to me that you have two different diameters in the first place. Mine are same (smaller) on both sides and when I queried DSS on this, they said they’d done away with the anti-wheelhop idea....
How old is this set?

That’s correct. It’s the same strategy Ford use. I assume it gives a different frequency from one side to the other, thereby “chopping” the signal so to speak.
They may well have stuffed it up upon refurb, getting the wrong diff spline section on the wrong bar.
