Hmmm, interesting. Thomson ford went for a test drive with me and although the tech could feel it he kept saying they are all like that and its the lockup torque converter....what a load of BS. Of course they listed on the service record that no fault was found.

Whoa,

This seems like a bit of a disaster guys. I read most of the 146 page US thread and it seems that no matter what they do, replace drive shaft , replace the diff, balance wheels, wheel alignment, sub-frame re-alignment it always seems to come back.

I'm certain that Ford are acutely aware of this issue and in the US they appear to be trying hard but aren't having a great deal of success. They are earnestly trying to avoid someone invoking the Lemon laws in the US to protect consumers from mega corporations like Ford in these circumstances.

It would be a deal killer for me, it would just kill all the enjoyment, and I would be selling and moving on. life's too short for all the aggravation that would come with trying to sort that and crappy loan cars for weeks etc etc. At least you can sell it back to Ford for a profit. I couldn't sell it to some poor unsuspecting.

I really hope you can sort it out and I wish you good luck in that endeavour.

Cheers
Fiz

^^^^ Same here too, vibration would be a killer for me. I've been very fortunate with all the Ford V8's I've had over the years. Always Falcons or FPVs until the Mustang.

Worst I had was a 1980 VC Commodore. Dealer sold it to me with ROH mags and lock nuts.

Vibrated above 60kmh; dealer checked everything, wheel alignments, balance, no solution.

Then I went to Brook Retreads at North Parramatta. They suggested an on-car wheel balance. Solved the problem straightaway. Problem was the lock nuts, they were at least 1 oz. heavier than the other nuts so once the wheel went back on it was straightaway out of balance.

This might not be a solution with the Mustang but maybe worth a look.

How bad is this thing? Will I 100â„… notice it if it happens?

If anyone has watched the documentary about our car, (A Faster Horse) you might recall them having a driveline vibration issue late in the development of the car. Is this an auto only issue or does it affect both?

Isn't the only real driveline difference between this car and the S197 the independent rear end and would the BMR cradle bush suspension upgrade help? The car was always produced at a price point so they were trying to keep costs down and this could be one of the reasons for the problem. If Ford had to fix this across the board it would be a killer for them assuming it is across the board.

To my way of thinking its not optional for Ford to fix this. Its a 65k car, it should be right. A Hyundai is also built to a price, but has better panel fit, better interior plastics and no driveline vibration at half the cost of a Mustang. It's just not an acceptable fault in 2016.

It's only in a small number of cars but it's in the auto the manual the GT and EB, so it's not discriminating. Just dead unlucky if you get one. Yes apparently it is very noticeable.

This problem sure sounds like a disaster - the good thing is that the manual transmission whine does not sound that bad anymore - give me a gear whine any day over this any day...

"At least you can sell it back to Ford for a profit. "

Do you reckon your dealer would buy it back (for a profit!) while they are aware of the vibration and how much a pain in the #@% it is to fix?
