I’m trying to find out the best rim sizes for a stock 2018 Mustang GT. I currently have 315/30 ZR 19 tires on stock rear rims and stock 285/35 ZR 19 on front.

I want to go skinnier on fronts for drag racing and rear size that will work over Brembo. What works best from your experience? If you can share info to help me decide correct run & tire size for drag racing I would appreciate it.

I’ve seen couple posts for 2018 GTs:

- 17x9 rear wheels with bias ply DR and 17x4.5 front wheels with skinnies,

- VMS Racing Street Drag Race Front: 18x8 - 12 Rear: 17x10

+54 | Mickey Thompson Street Comp Front: 205/85 Rear: 315/50

What suspension are you running, and what power level?

I have a brand new set of 18X5 Racestars with 28" tires available. Test fit only. My car was too low for them.

Auto or Manual? NA? Boost?
I run, rear 26" MT 275/40-17 radial
and front 185/50-18 mh racemaster in front. Wheels I run the vms 17x10 and 18x5.
I personally like the short tire since you get a little more gear out of the car and it's lighter. The only issue is on stock tune your shifting into 7th at about the 1000'

You dont get any more gear out of that shorter tire vs the 305/45. I tested that tire and the 305/45 same day/evening at the track and didnt pick up any mph or ET at all. None. It was a huge waste of time. I was running them on my 22GT 3.15 gears when it was JLT/LTHs/E85. No difference almost to the one hundredth. Plus they look stupid back there being so small.

This is interesting info !! went with the shorter 275/40/17 Mickey Thompson ET STREET R’ cause I also have the 3:15 rear, figured the 26 inch tall tire would help the 60ft. I do agree it looks kinda silly .. might have to give the 305 tires a try.

Yeah they did nothing, absolutely nothing. Im dead nuts accurate too with my launches and runs, and I can basically bracket race my car at this point. And the shorter tires didnt help at all. And they looked dumb. Went back to the 305/45 and have no issues. Plus it looks much better.

I start high and lower as needed. But my ET street SS hook well at 26psi. Enough that i broke an axle with them on the 1-2 shift at the track last time. I have a whipple now though so 700hp hits hard on the stock axles.
