This is probably about 3 questions in one but has anyone on here mastered the art of keep their windscreen clear at all times?

I have the following problems.

Smearing when using wipers when it rains.

I have tired all sorts of cleaners. Even googled the top ten best windscreen cleaners and just purchased whatever was top and it has not helped.

I keep wax and shampoo away from the screen. I have used toothpaste and all sorts but always the same problem.

Misting up on the inside
Not as much a problem but still kin annoying sometimes.

I HATE an mist at all on the screen and sometimes I get a little haze at the bottom of the screen on the inside. I try aircon on, aircon off, heat on, heat off and there never seems to be the one way to clear it.

Sometimes I will get it and a little bit of aircon makes it go away instantly. Other times it makes it worse. And it gets me in a serious bad mood. Makes me want to get out and beat the car with a branch....but then I look at her and realise I could never harm my beauty!

Constant haze on the inside

Its there all the time. Especially noticeable when driving towards the sun. I hate it. Sometimes it will go with some aircon but others it wont, or it will go but I get the little condensation thing going on at the bottom of the screen (see above).

For info. I have my aircon pretty much on all the time. I hate a stuffy car and whenever I turn it off I soon want it back on again.

I rarely use heat in the car. I love natural heat (from the sun) but I hate artificial heat (central heating and car heaters).

This problem is really starting to piss me off. I just want a clear screen all the time I am driving. Anyone out there got any suggestions?

Smearing windscreen:

Autobrite Repel, great stuff to make wipers glide effortless, also have good screen wash to help clearing blug splatter.

AC on should keep screen clear at all times and it should be instant, maybe you have an AC issue.

Constant haze, if your screen is wiped clean on the inside and dry this should not happen, so can't really help with that m8.

Is toothpaste safe on a windscreen? Will it leave micro scratches or a matt sheen that would show up in direct sunshine?

Good question but it was a little better and no worse after I tried it!

This may sound the stupidest, and yet simplest question, have you tried kitchen roll + window cleaner on the INSIDE of your car?

I was getting smears on mine and a few days ago the sun hit my screen in away that I saw a massive polish swipe from where I assume the dealers, polished the windows during PDI, recleaned it, buffed it up - nice and shiney to see through again.

Regarding the haze from the blades, I get the same sometimes, disappears after like 1 second, but it's weird, I've put it down to the blades and shape of windscreen, but no idea.

I had a frustrating time with my windscreen at the weekend...

I normally use Autoglm's "Fast Glass" but it did nothing to remove the watermarks left from my pre wash. Switched to a household window cleaner (mr muscle I think) and worked much better. Used a microfibre cloth.

Might be worth a try also - newspaper is supposedly goo for cleaning mirror/glass. Haven't tried it on mine but might be worth a go...

Yes, I have tried cleaner but not with kitchen roll. I am trying to limit the amount of products I use as I dont want that to compound the problem....I dont want someone saying 'ah, you used such and such, thats your problem mate'

You see, I would never risk a household cleaner. My philosophy is that suerly products made for car windscreens by companies that make products for cars should be best.

I know what you mean about the marks from pre wash. When I was cleaning my car at the weekend I could just tell from when I was drying the windscreen that it was going to be shit!

Tried rainx on the wifes car once and spent hours trying to get it off some weeks later. I am not sure if rainx caused the problem or not but I had to try and get it off to rule it out

No DO NOT use RainX or their Anti-Fog it is sodding aweful and leaves smearing that can take months to remove.

Autobrite repel is much better without the smearing, but is for external glass. They also have glass cleaners which are great.

Also Gtechniq G5 is amazing for exterior use that's left all my exterior windows gleaming - G1 I think is what you need for front windows; as wipers need to be coated with something different, so they claim!. But I digress....

I use Mr Muscle on my interior. End of the day, it's glass, it's not some special glass, it's glass, and Mr Muscle... Works on my house's windows, so why not! That's for interior windscreen btw. I've used it on most my cars, small amounts with Kitchen Roll - But Newspaper also works (Slightly scared of smearing ink so never use that but my own personal adversion).

If I use something like G5 or Repel, do I need to sort the smearing problem first by cleaning the screen with something or so these clean AND protect?

never had any issue with the windows,
my issue is the wipers, have to move the left one 1st, as it goes past the right one, when cleaning the windows, not a big deal
but they glide along the window, and the auto wipers are pretty clever, but can be worrying on a bright clear day, suddenly the wipers will come on, and you think "is it going to rain" as you are on a motorway with the roof down :D think its the Moisture in the air

I've always used a newspaper (Daily Record or Sun) with Methylated Spirits to get the windscreen clean, inside and outside. Got a bit of a nasty smell but goes away pretty quickly.

I had a serious misting up problem with my Focus when I bought it a few years ago. Used shaving cream on the inside of the windows while it took Ford 6 months to find the problem. By the way, I also use shaving cream on all my mirrors in the bathroom at home - no misting up whatsoever:D. Wipe it on and used microfibre cloth to give it a quick buff.
