Easiest just to send opt out notice with liquidated damages $1 K day "opt in" by registered mail to the address Ford must legally provide. At least ten states are very serious about this.

What is everyone's beef with CarPlay? I have wireless Carplay and it works great. If I ant to leave Carplay I just hit the all aps button, hit the Ford icon and Carplay is gone. Nav works fine and I can choose my music source.

My beef it that it's uglier than Sync's native interface, and that it's annoyingly limited. Not being able to read text messages and to respond to them (which I can do just fine in Sync), just because Apple thinks I'm an imbecile and it's their job to save me from myself, tops it all.
CarPlay is great as long as it's better than your car's native system. I'm sure it's great in, say, a Ĺ koda, whose native system is crap. But in a Ford? With Sync 3? Not the case.

Nav works fine
No, it doesn't. There's no Ford nav while CarPlay is active.

You have wireless CarPlay only if you buy and use a third party device, which relies on a cloned device ID to bypass Apple's licensing system, and which takes ages to connect. In my book that doesn't count.

This is highly subjective... i like the interface of CarPlay a lot more than the native SYNC3 interface.
And Siri is reading all the messages for me, but i use WhatsApp most of the time anyway and not iMessage.
And i can respond to the messages via voice. So in my opinion it works as designed.

The other two things are true.
No native SYNC3 navigation while either CarPlay or AndroidAuto is running and no wireless CarPlay natively.

Good for you. But 99% of my messages are not in English. This renders the reading feature completely useless.
Responding via voice, even in English, only works properly half the time, while the other half it requires me to go back and forth two or three times until Siri understands everything correctly. And it's getting worse. Siri is getting more and more stupid with each and every update. Things I could do with Siri in 2019 worked only partially in 2020. Things I could do in 2020 barely work now. I used to like Siri in 2019, then to feel a bit disappointed in 2020, then to hate her in 2021. She really is getting increasingly stupid with every update.
I have three persons whose first name is Ioana (though different surnames, obviously) in my address book, one of whom is marked as my sister. When I tell Siri "call my sister", she responds: "which sister? Ioana XXX or Ioana YYY?" And if, after rolling my eyes, I repond "Ioana XXX", she says "You want me to call Ioana ZZZ. Is this correct?"
I have no patience with such crap. It's easier and faster to just use the touch screen and find the correct contact - and less embarassing for that matter than arguing with a dumb robot.

But anyway, that's beside the point. That I could go around a restriction by using Siri is irrelevant. My gripe is that the restriction exists in the first place. For me things are simple - I can do something easily in Sync, but can't do it in CarPlay. Ergo CarPlay is worse. Especially as the reason for not being able to do it in CarPlay is simply Apple's belief that I'm an imbecile - which I find deeply insulting.

That’s why i say that it’s highly subjective.

Well, sure, everything in life is subjective.
I guess for people who simultaneously fulfil all the following criteria, CarPlay is just fine:
1. All of their text messages are in English only.
2. They speak English natively and with exactly the right accent that happens to be understood by Siri.
3. They don't mind talking to a robot and do not feel ridiculous while doing so.
For everyone else Sync is better.

That's a good idea. I may try that. My German pronounciation is quite good (although still with a foreign accent, of course). But the trouble is, I don't think pronounciation is the only key. Because usually Siri does understand my commands perfectly; it's just that she responds in a foolish manner. I mean, what good would it be to ask: "ruf' meine Schwester an", if she replied: "welche Schwester?" To which I would shout in anger: "Na, wieviele Schwestern gibt's in meinem Adressbuch, du dummes, wertloses Zeug?"
Besides, having Romanian messages read in German wouldn't be much better anyway than having them read in English. They'd still be incomprehensible. :cwl:

I'm gonna need to check that Nav thing.

It takes 10 seconds to connect.

I've yet to see a video showing it boot up in less than thirty seconds, best case. And that's without counting Sync's own boot time. I find that unacceptable.
But if I'm wrong and there is indeed one that's up and running in ten seconds, I would love to see it.

Anyway, the point is somewhat moot if I don't like CarPlay itself. I wouldn't use it (not regularly, anyway) even if it booted up in two seconds, because forcing me to use that Siri garbage for everything drives me mad.

When I connected today it took 12 seconds.
