This just popped up in my Google news feed. Wondering what your guys thoughts are since I like Citizen.

I don't understand all of the technical details but it seems like they just developed their own in house automatic movement similar to the Swiss brands. Personally I still love the Eco-Drive but it'll be interesting to see some of their new designs.

It's an immediate contender. There is a lot to like here.

Just got this custom strap in from TheStrapSmith.com made from a vintage leather military ammo pouch. Smells like an antique shop.

I had been watching this one on the 'Bay for a year or more and the seller hit me with an offer I couldn't refuse. This movement is a big beautiful piece of mechanical goodness. I've got a nearly identical one from an actual aircraft clock that I was hoping to build into a watch, but this one is ready to go. The other was damaged in shipping, so will be a long-term project. The clock dial is amazing, too. About 60mm though...

I love intricate things and I work on SMD circuits regularly. That is intimidating to ME, which says something.

Mechanical watch movements are miniature works of art. Imagine the time it took to design something like this. And then the skill to build it.

That is sweet! I've always been a bracelet guy, but you could start a new thread just on straps.

I looked briefly, but my focus was on bronze automatics... haven't done any research on them to see how/if they are linked to Gruppo Gamma brand. Gotta be a million micro brands out there...
When I went looking for a bronze watch my first thought was the Tudor BB (OK, my real first thought was a Panerai Bronzo). Unfortunately both of these were a little out of my price range. So I decided to go with my go to brand, Steinhart.

Under $500.00, Swiss made ETA2824. Cannot go wrong.

Now imagine the cost of service :piggybank:
Just the skill in handling and assembling those components is astounding. I’m great at tedious detail, but that is intimidating.

Here are a few of my Russian chronos, all based on the Poljot 3133, itself being a derivative of the Valjoux / ETA 7734.

As someone who's been tempted to get a Rolex, here's the conversation I have with my Conscience every time I search the internet.

My Conscience: "Mr. Dickus, would you rather put $15-20000 into one of your Vanguard Funds, or would you rather have a watch that is the most expensive and least accurate timepiece you own?"

BD: "Well, when you put it like that... How about a Stainless Steel Datejust?"

Conscience: "A SS Datejust? LOL - nothing says you're a poser wannabe when you wear the CHEAPEST Rolex known to mankind - are your going to wear it while you drive around in your C 250? Do that and I'll call you a douchebag first thing in the morning and every time you look in a mirror!"

BD: "yeah - I guess the old Seiko still works"

Very tasty collection! What size is the Combat? and what is the blue-banded one in the top corner ? and there's only about 18 more that I'd like to get to know... (like, what's that one directly below the Combat?) Looks like a new line of research for me...

See that’s part of the problem. Not everyone buys a Rolex to impress others (not saying that is you, but your words poser and wannabe kind of point in that direction). A plain bezel 41mm Datejust only costs $7650, not $15-$20k. It’s built as well as any other Rolex and it would tell me that your a serious watch person, certainly not a poser. Now you could get in for even less. My brother in law has been contemplating getting an Air King. Great watch, as low key as you can get for $6450. Lastly, the Explorer for $6550. So plenty of low key, moderately priced watches with the Rolex name. So maybe not a Daytona but those of us on here will appreciate what you have. :like:
