Yep; that's exactly how you need to drive this car to minimize 'notchiness'. My car only has that on the 2-3 shift, but sometimes the 1-2 shift can feel similar if you put too much pressure to the left of the shifter, or not enough. But once fully hot, it shifts like butter.
